Any Other Calgary 2014 Brides?

Recommended Posts

I have a question for my fellow Calgary brides. Where are you shopping for a wedding dress?

I got mine at Blissful Bridal and they have some really pretty dresses and their service is great. I should also mention their prices are really good. I also went to Jessica and Rykiss (i think that's how it's spelled) and they had some really nice ones as well for good prices.

I agree, whatever you do don't go to The Bridal Center. I went there first because I figured that since it's so big I'd be able to find something. They were way overpriced, they barely showed me anything for my $1500-$2000 budget and the consultant seemed like she had been partying all night and the last thing she wanted to do was help me.

I didn't go to Ethos but I got my grad dress there back in the day. I remember I went with a friend to try on a few dresses and they barely even said hi to us. I guess they figured we wouldn't buy anything. I ended up buying there because I found a dress that I really liked but not because of their costumer service. It's also very expensive.

I only went to two wedding stores.

David's Bridal - where I purchased my awesome dress for $500

Ever After - found a gorgeous beautiful dress, but wasn't what I was going for destination wedding wise.

I have no complaints about David's Bridal, but I would say their consultants are not as experienced as Ever After.  The people there were AWESOME.  She would bring me dresses which I was like 'ewww' but they looked soooo good. They have so much experience with all types they can tell you what will look good.

David's Bridal is SOOO busy, even with an appointment, they are run thin.  But I found my dress, paid a good price, so really have no complaints.  Also got my bridesmaids dresses there.

I didn't go - but in Airdrie there is Taffeta and Tulle.  It advertises that all dresses are under $1000 but they have an appt fee which is reimbursed if you buy from there.

Side note - stock dresses are stretched out.  Ordered the size that fit AWESOME in the store, and when mine came it was a little snug.  Not bad or hideous, noone even noticed when I showed them, but I noticed it.  Noone warned me of that and it is probably not even an issue ... I will lose 5 lbs ... but wanted everyone else to know incase it shocks you like it did me!

I haven't gone looking yet (just got engaged last week and need to do Save the Dates first), but I'll be going to David's.  Big selection with good prices.  I've found several on their site that I like, all for $500 or less.

Are any of you ladies going to the wedding show at the BMO September 14th? I will be mostly done planning but figure it doesn't hurt going to look at some vendors. Plus I still need a veil! Has anyone been previously?

Mine was $523 after tax :)  Needs some alterations (hem, bustle)  but can't complain

I saw the info on Facebook - my news source JK! - but I wasn't really sure I would go.  I am by no means close to my wedding in September but have bought almost everything so kind of thought 'what's the point?'   If we knew eachother we could all go together!!!

@ I might! I went a year ago to one but I wasn't really into the planning process so it might be a bit different this time around. I liked their fashion show and I tried on a few gowns on their sale but by the time I got there only the really big ones/ruined ones were left so I didn't buy anything.

I think the usefulness is somewhat limited for us DW brides but it's always cool to check out different ideas. Only a small portion of the vendors there really apply to us but you might find it useful. I had fun anyways and I might go this year with my fiance since he couldn't go last year but wanted to.

Hi Calgary brides! I was wondering for those getting legally married here at home before going to your destination, who is marrying you? How far in advance should I book the officiant? And what are the price ranges?

My friend recently did this but was married in Cuba. She said she got a list of officiants from a registry office and picked one near her. She said with tip she paid $125 so I budgeted for that. I would assume they can charge whatever they want? I've also been snooping on kijiji and some list themselves on there. Didn't see a price on the one I opened though. I plan to start calling early to mid November for mid January. May be too early but then I know Forsure. I guess I could email one from Kijiji and ask how much notice they need and their cost. I will get back to you on that.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
