Has Anyone Used Romantic Planet To Plan Your Destination Wedding?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!

I went to the Toronto Destination Wedding and Honeymoon expo last night hosted by Romantic Planet.  The event was nice, but I found it more suitable for those who are investigating their options for a destination.  My fiancee and I already know where and when we want to get married.  I did some research as to reviews on the company and found some rather negative ones and a few positive ones so I'm really not sure if I should consider using them.

My question is:  Have any brides used Romantic Planet to plan their destination wedding?  Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I have my group booked with romantic planet. They are AWFUL!!!! Do your self a Favor and do not book with them. Absolutely the worst. Unless you like waiting a month per rate request. They are full of excuses. Trust the bad reviews you read online.

I also went to the same expo...found it was really uninformative since I already know where I want to go. The one Vendor I went to see didn't even show up! I put my name in for a quote but still have got nothing. Not a good sign...I think I will end up going with just a regular travel agent!

Sorry for the late reply, but thanks so much for your input.  @@Meandhim where are you from?  I went to the Toronto show and I didn't really find it helpful either because I already knew I wanted a destination wedding and I already knew what resort I wanted.  I did get to talk to the Rep for Melia hotels, but she didn't tell me anything I didn't already know.  I did get an e-mail from them shortly after the show, but haven't responded yet.  I read a lot of bad reviews, but a few good ones, so I'm not sure what to think.

@@diadiamond @@Meandhim  I was at the Toronto show too!!!!  Can you believe the guy who won a prize and then got short-listed for the honeymoon prize! lol

I requested a quote from them, it came within a week and both my fiancé and I have been going back and forth getting more quotes and asking questions.  The agent we're dealing with has actually been pretty quick, we sometimes wait a couple days to hear back but they're waiting to receive the quotes on their end as well.  We have been comparing what we get from them to others of course, so far she's done a pretty good job for us, although I haven't actually booked it yet so we'll see.

Just an update for anyone reading this forum.

While I was having good experience with Romantic Planet, I was of course gathering other quotes and comparing,  Any quote I got that was cheaper they agreed to match but never beat.  While waiting for one last quote before booking, the RP agent we were dealing with was leaving on vacation the next day and we got the impression she didn't want to wait for us to decide.  While I completely believe everyone deserves a vacation, she actually said to us "in an ideal world we would have the contract signed before I leave".  In an ideal world? what?  She was passing us onto her colleague once she left and gave us her name, but never sent an introduction email or connected us in any way.  Like we were annoying her that we didn't book right away.

Needless to say, we have booked with another company, who were able to drop the price for each guests 7 night stay by $130 and got $200 off both mine and my fiancé's 14 night stay.

I don't want to speak poorly of anyone, just giving my opinion and I have heard good things about RP.

@@deecol I'm sooo glad I didn't book with them.  I've been hearing a lot of awful things about them.  The quote I got from another company was also cheaper so I decided to not book with RP.  I might take a chance and book a honeymoon through them though.

@@diadiamond Speak to Travel Advantage and Tours Inc. as well.  They were the company who got all our quotes down and they have been really helpful along the way.  They are even including custom beach bags with our booking!  I'm sure they could get you a quote for your honeymoon and they are happy to try and beat any quote you bring them as much as they can.

I went to a bridal show here in Calgary before we started planning and I didn't find it very helpful either. It's really geared towards local weddings, so unless you go to see travel agents there's not a lot of info we can use. I guess the invites and maybe dress boutiques can be somewhat useful.

Even then, all the travel agencies we talked to during the fair didn't have much info or anything that would sell you on using them over anyone else. I was looking for maybe a few recommendations based on the rough amount of guests and the fact that we wanted a venue off the beach, just so that I could later research and contact them with a rough idea, but all they said was "send us an e-mail and we can get started". It's hard to narrow it down when they all say the same thing. The best thing I ever did was booking through someone that came recommended to me. She's honestly been great and even my parents the other day told me that they were really impressed that she's always on top of things. So my advice, ask other brides for their recommendation :). It seems that good travel agents are not very easy to find.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
