Hi everyone!  I have been reading this blog, and this has been SO helpful!  I also wanted to give a special thanks to Robyn (@rtscent) for all the helpful tips.  I'm planning for a 6/11/16 wedding at GRM.   A few questions for you brides:

I was researching for pretty places, family friend, all-inclusive, and decided on this b/c a friend who was a guest at a previous wedding, high recommended it.  I also liked the Pier and sky deck for wedding/reception.  However, I am disappointed by the beach (or lack there of) in all the trip advisor photos.  Anyone else have a problem with this?

Congrats to all you brides!!!

@@Maurindy2016 honestly the beach at GRM isn't that great. It is an eye sore. Some days the water is nicer than others, it depends on the seaweed. It did bother me but I was prepared for the not so perfect beach. My guests still enjoyed themselves and nobody was complaining about it.

A tip is to plan a day trip to Maroma beach or another beach that is nicer as a group excursion. We did a catamaran cruise to maroma beach and it was nice

@@CnBWedding yes we spent a lot of time at El Dorado / El Dorado Casitas. Its very close, you can walk or hop on a golf cart. I highly recommend to eat lunch at JoJos or Isla at El Dorado. AMAZING. I really liked all of the restaurants between all of the resorts. I had vegan and super picky guests and they all raved about the food. Every night we partied at Gaucamaya, the outdoor club at El Dorado. Super Fun.

As far as the  beach goes, there are pockets where the beach is better than others. You may find an area that works for you. The El Dorado has more beach to work with. Generations is day by day. Somedays the beach is OK , and others its full of seaweed. So for everyone getting married here, do not get your hearts set on the beach water. Just being real. There are many great things about the resort, but the beach is not one of them.

Good luck,

Robyn

@@rtscent thanks!

FYI I just wanted to update everyone and provide a tip for planning purposes.  If you are doing a room block with your Travel Agent make sure you have a realistic gauge of the number of guests and set aside enough rooms.  Also keep your guests informed and make sure they understand that the deadlines to reserve are important!  We blocked 6 rooms at a time expecting at least 5 or six reservations a month (we weren't really sure about the ultimate guest count and didn't want to come out of pocket a ton up front). Well, most of our guests waited until the week of deadline and now both Generations and El Dorado Royale are all sold out of rooms!  Our wedding is in November and we certainly were not expecting both hotels to sell out completely but oh well.  Not only that, quite a few of the hotels in the area are now sold out.  So now we now have guests that may not be able to attend because there are no more rooms.

Stay on top of your agents and make sure they keep you informed on the bookings so that they can properly advise you if the hotel is low on rooms.  Ultimately it's really on the guests to book in time, and our agent did warn us this could happen.  Just passing the info along.

This blog has been so helpful so far!! Does anyone have photos of a Skydeck reception? I'm getting married in May 2016 and I have booked the Pier for the Ceremony, and the Skydeck for the Cocktail/Reception. I am going to the Bride's Dress Rehearsal in October, but I'm hoping to have some pictures so I can understand the layout or decor options.

Thanks!

Also I'm very curious on photographers. Sarani looks great but it's out of my budget. Any other bride's go through or work through a similar situation? What vendor/package did you do?

For flowers, I'm thinking something very minimal. I think because of this, I should go through Lomas--Vanessa's arrangements are beautiful but I don't think the outside vendor fee will offset the costs. Any insights here?

THANKS!  :D

Hi Ladies & special heartfelt CONGRATS to those who are new to this thread! :)

@@CnBWedding - @@rtscent is spot on re EDR.  99% of our guests stayed on that side many of whom are beach lovers and I had 0 complaints & tons of FB/Instagram posts of them enjoying themselves on the Bali beds, jet skis etc. over there.

@@Kalie25 - Unfortunately, I can't really help re Sky Deck reception pics. I had my ceremony and cocktail hour up there and my reception on the Pier b/c I was worried it would be too chilly up there (we got married in February).   As for photographers. I used Sascha Gluck (Cancun Photos) because I liked his photojournalist style and found his rate to be pretty reasonable.  He was worth the outside vendor fee!  I was not impressed with the quality of Lomas' flowers given the prices they charge so I hired Vanessa. To get around the fee, we rented a car (something we already planned to do for incidentals and to show new hubby around since he'd never been to Mexico before except for the Brides Dress Rehearsal event).  We picked them up from her studio very early on the morning of our wedding.

@@ErinSullivan - CONGATS!!!!  We hired Mega DJ at the last minute b/c doing the speaker thing wouldn't work for our reception on the pier and he was great if you just need someone to play the music and have it mix/blend well. Using ITunes I found the exact name/version of songs (e.g., Radio Edit) & listed it on a spreadsheet for him to play to avoid having a raunchy version played since we had a few kids and the parents in attendance.  He did a great job and to my surprise moved the songs around so they all flowed and blended well.  He came with party lights so that helped make the dance area fun.  He's the cheaper of the Lomas DJs and doesn't come with the glow sticks & crazy props. My group was fine without them.

@@girlinthecity97 thanks for your feedback.  Hope you are enjoying married life!  The countdown is on for me as I have about 5 weeks left until the big day!  The DJ friend we planned on hiring fell through also late in the game so we just hired Mega DJ.  Good to hear he mixes well.  Only thing is my family is from Haiti and I will need to find songs to play that will be available on iTunes, I guess that is the easiest thing to do.

Just one question, our coordinator told us we need an MC because the DJ does not MC.  The most capable person in our eyes is also a groomsmen.  I was going to ask if the DJ would at least do the wedding party announcements and our friend can take over.  Do you have any insight?  Is Mega DJ bilingual?

@@Kalie25 unfortunately I do not have skydeck reception picture either. I asked for pier reception pics as that is where our reception will be taking place.  But my coordinator Ana was able to provide them so I'm sure they will send you some all you have to do is ask.

I got married in August at generations. We did the chapel for the ceremony (I wanted a traditional feel in a destination) and it worked perfectly.. And guests were nice and comfortable in the air condition.. Cocktail hour was on the rooftop and reception on the pier. Luiz was our butler he was amazinggg.. Coordinators on site were okay they did their job. I worked with Ingrid the whole time planning and she's an off site coordinator i would of liked her to be my onsite but it was fine. The hotel was beautiful majority of my guests had the rooms with the pools on the balcony they loved that. The restaurants were very good, hotel overall was very clean and everything is brand new and very modern. ive attached some photos for you future brides :) any questions about the hotel feel free to ask

I saved a lot of money by not doing flowers for the tables or bouquets for the girls (it didn't even matter no one noticed and the money was saved) I didn't do welcome bags and no one cared I did a favor at the wedding instead. There's so many things to cut out and save money on .. Originally I had everything u could imagine planned and as we got closer I realized it was a waste so I saved the money on it.

I had 80 guests come and everyone had a great time... If anyone needs help email me cferraro722@@gmail.com for a quicker response ???? Enjoy the pics ????????

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
