Laura - Thank you so much for the comprehensive review!  I am surprised to hear about the swamp thing... no one ever told me anything about that!  As for the bricks in the ocean, I'm sure my FH is going to be a little annoyed.  Did it impact your experience hanging out at the beach?

I'm already changing some of the parts of the Pure Glamour package (I did not like the pink colors) - nor am I doing the food package they put in the brochure.  It was $13 less to do the "pick and choose" dinner, and our guests still get three courses.  I also think we're getting a very small cake for ourselves which is only $28, and then getting cupcakes for each wedding guests.  We have about 50 people coming, so that was cheaper than doing the big wedding cake.

Does anyone else think the chair covers in the packages are a bit ridiculous?  Is all that really necessary?  I might try just customizing my own thing and having simple bows instead of the full covers that are in the pictures.

Congratulations Ladies!

Thats so fun to meet my "twin"... we should all try to have dinner or lunch with our husbands once all the wedding celebrations die down!  How long are you having your guests stay?  I'm asking them to arrive on Thursday and depart on Sunday.  We're staying Wed-Wed (7 days) on the GRM side.  We are having both our ceremony & reception at the SkyDeck.

I don't think I'm going to bring all of my own decorations in a suitcase - that seems like it could be really cumbersome.  However we are incorporating both of our heritages, so I may be bringing my own decorative broom so we can "jump the broom" (it's an old African-American tradition).  FH is Jewish, so we'll be breaking a glass as well.  Does anyone happen to know if you need a special glass for that?  I can't imagine that a normal glass would break very easily - and that could be kind of a nightmare at the ceremony if we keep stomping on a glass and failing!

Please report back on what you see at the brides dress rehearsal!  So delighted to meet you!

Wow that's so exciting! You're right we are wedding day twins! Are you having your ceremony on the beach or the sky deck? I wonder if we are doing the ceremony in the same spot. We just booked the pier for our reception and the wedding is on the beach. I thought it would be a random spot but the WC said it's at the beach gazebo.

My FI and I are headed to the Brides Dress Rehearsal in November to plan the specifics. I don't think I'm going to do the memorable moments package because it's so expensive ($250 per table?), but I need to figure out the al la carte pricing for individual decorations. This is supposed to be less expensive than having a local wedding, but at this rate who knows. I'll probably bring some decorations from home but my wedding contract said they would charge me $5 per person to set up my decorations. I've read some threads and it seems better to deal with that price once we get there in cash.

Anyway I'm sure we will have a lot to discuss/compare notes on in the upcoming months! :)

No need. We are getting married at Sensatori on the sky deck and are auper excited. But thanks for the offer! I agree sky deck is definitely the way to go if brides can afford the add on charge. It will definitely be stunning and should obstruct the cement pillars in the ocean at the right angle.

@@Christinagiovanni - agree, the swamp isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things!

@@rtscent - would love to see your skydeck pics! I'm lauraleighnash@@gmail.com if you wouldn't mind sending my way.

@@ChiTiff - yes, totally with you on the chair covers!! I'm not understanding the value of those... I would love to see what just a plain chair looks like :) How are you finding the options of what you can switch things out for? Just through that planning section of the Lomas site, or are you literally finding pictures of other stuff altogether that you'd bring yourself, and asking them for pricing to put it up for you? I want like a book of things to choose from with a cost per piece, and I'm thinking it doesn't exist :)

On the bricks/beach thing:

Hearing other brides on the El Dorado board discuss the bricks in the ocean was my biggest hesitation in choosing this resort and one of the reasons we decided to visit to be sure it was the right choice. The bricks are not awesome, but everything else is so amazing, we both left feeling totally confident that the bricks were NBD and that our guests would have a great time.

Here's two photos that I took with the bricks in the background so you can see them. They're definitely weird (and I am definitely crossing my fingers that they magically sink to the bottom in the next 6 months!) but again, the rest of the resort outweighed the weirdness for us.

El Dorado Royale next door, which you and your guests would have access to, has a nicer beach area with different style ocean barriers - they're more like sandbags so they look more natural. And we actually found that we kind of liked them, because they created these really shallow, calm areas to swim in (especially because we had a barracuda incident at another hotel!!)

@@Christinagiovanni - agree that the swamp isn't really a big deal in the grand scheme of things! It's actually how the whole area would be if not for development, I guess, so authentic :) It's just quite different than some of the other hotels.

So I met with my travel agent today, and someone else from her company is out at a site visit to the GRM right now.  She told me that the skydeck is essentially completed, so yay!

Are you all using a travel agent to arrange your trip?  Have you had any guests give you an issue with trying to book things?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
