Thanks for the head's up. We were planning on making a playlist and having one of our family members be our MC for our events @@kmk2016

Ahhh yeah that's totally fine! Lots of brides are doing that! It's the outside DJs being flown in or from outside companies around Mexico that aren't allowed any longer.

Congrats! Have a fabulous wedding!!!

Just received an email from my coordinator at GRM .. Like my fiancé & I had previously discussed you are able to fly in an outside DJ as long as they are staying a minimum of 3 nights to waive the $800 resort fee. @@kmk2016 maybe your hotel has different restrictions

Wow that is awesome!!!! I'm going to double check with my WC too- perhaps they have reversed their decision in last months! I didn't even care about the $800 charge- it was important to have a great DJ and so when we heard that they weren't allowing any outside vendors in this category I was really upset! You have peeked my interest for sure! Thanks!

Hi Ladies! Congrats on your weddings! My fiancé and I have decided to have our wedding at Generations Riviera Maya April 25, 2015. I just mailed in the forms. I feel like I'm coming in late to the game so it was nice to read this thread. We aren't going to a Bride's Dress Rehearsal until November so we probably won’t plan the details until then. @girlinthecity97 and @rtscent how did you get the room blocks at set rates? Was it through your TA or through the hotel?

We are being a little unconventional and decided to have the ceremony (maybe at 4ish) and then a break so our guests can go to any restaurant to eat dinner and then come back to the reception for snacks, desert and dancing from 8 to 11ish. I asked two of my good friends and they think it's fine. We are just trying to keep the costs down and now won't have to decorate as much. I’m thinking the beach for the ceremony and the pier for the reception but am not really sure how that’s all going to work out especially not seeing it in person. The pictures of the beach with all of the sandbags and blocks in the ocean aren’t great, but our TA has reassured us that it won’t be too bad. What do you guys think about the beach ceremony location there?

@noob awesome your going to love it! when i went to the brides dress rehearsal in june, even though i'm not doing the beach ceremony they did tell me that those blocks and everything in the ocean wouldnt be there for next year. they were actually expanding the beach thats why it looked like that. also the break in between i dont know how i feel about that.. your allowing your guests to just wander to wherever they want and then come back for 8pm? you might lose some people in between that lol. when you go to the dress rehearsal they give you 20% off of food and beverage prices and also $500 credit as well towards food and beverage so that might help you with pricing. it also depends how many people you are having. if it's a small party then it shouldnt too bad.

i went through a travel agent and held each room with a deposit.

@@Christinagiovanni thanks so much for the info! That makes me feel better about the beach. I can't wait to get down there for the bride's dress rehearsal. We might not end up doing the break. I just can't decide what would be best and maybe the cost will be less than we think once we start planning things out. Once we get a better idea of the number of attendees that will help too.

we did a small break - an "informal cocktail" - for our guests to go to the bar while we did photos. Some of them ended up getting something to eat instead of going to the bar. But they all showed up for the party - no worries!

@@Aliyedwinramirez - all the best and happy planning! I know your wedding will be amazing.  We were torn between Sensatori & GRM/EDR.

@@kmk2016 - UGH!  Thanks for the heads up about the DJ.  We are torn between doing an ipod list, asking one of my dj friends who will be coming to do the honors, OR hiring an outside vendor. :(  From the sounds of things our only option is to have one of my friends dj or go the ipod route w/ someone MCing.

@@Christinagiovanni & @@nicatella - major CONGRATS & WELCOME!  @@Christinagiovanni  - thanks so very much for the new deets based on your recent BDR.  We went in January.

I heard the sky deck will be ready in September.  I was hoping to squeeze a trip down there after they finish it but that's looking increasingly unlikely. :(

@@nicatella - we secured our discounted rate room block through our TA.  We got quotes from others for group rates so we could be sure we were getting the best rate available. Since we are getting married during a peak weekend, we wanted to lock in ASAP to ensure we had enough rooms and get the best rates for that weekend.

Happy Planning!

@@AllieH thanks for your thoughts on the break! Your wedding thread is fantastic and inspiring. I think i will have to DIY some of the decorations.

Now I'm thinking we should have a reception since all of the guests are paying to come down for us. I think we could do the food for 60 guests for $3K and then the bar is included with the food for 3 hours.

I'm thinking about a 5 pm wedding and 6-10 pm reception, but I haven't seen any posts with the ceremony that late. Anyone have thoughts on a 5pm April ceremony? When I googled the sunset info I found conflicting info but i think the sun will set around 7:15 pm.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
