Ahau Or Ana Y Jose For Nov 2014 Wedding In Tulum?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I just came back from Tulum after visiting five venues - Ahau, Ana y Jose, Akiin, El Pez and La Zebra.  We narrowed our choices down to Ahau and Ana y Jose.  I have been communicating with both hotels; however, I am having a difficult time communicating with Ana y Jose.  If this is any indication of how the wedding planning process will be like, it is a major concern.  I am not sure who is in charge to make decisions and they keep directing me to either the wedding coordinator or the reservations office.  It is quite frustrating and I feel like it is not going anywhere.  Has anyone had successful, good experience with Ana y Jose (not their beach club)?  I am starting to talk to Ahau and working on a proposal, but they seem responsive although I will have to see how it goes.  If anyone has any insight with their experience at either Ana y Jose or Ahau, I would really appreciate it!

RS, the initial response time for Tulum hotels seems to take ~2 weeks.  It took awhile for both hotels to respond.  Did you end up booking a venue yet?  We're still looking for a venue and so we have not looked into other vendors yet.  Please let me know if you have recommendations.

MsTurnsMrs, oh my... I'm sorry to hear that.  We have eliminated Ana y Jose from our list of venues as it became apparent no one seems to know what is going on.  We are now seriously looking into La Zebra and Ahau.  Can I ask what happened?  Ana y Jose mgmt told me that they would hire an external coordinator (Morgan) for large weddings - we are expecting ~120 guests.  I thought that once you get past the initial contract phase, the actual wedding planning should be ok.

  • 3 weeks later...

I was able to get in contact with most of these cabana hotels by translating my emails into Spanish. I have problems confirming the general price/ price structure partially because of the language barrier. Looks like, at la Zebra, for approximately 40 guests, the wedding would run about $10K, which is surprising, given the cost differential with a large resort (~$3000). Is this what you're seeing or did I misunderstand their pricing sheet?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
