Vancouver Bc Brides With Wedding In Mexico?

Recommended Posts

Hi ladies!

I'm having a stressful time trying to find a resort that accommodates my guests price range (less than $2000). I'm planning a wedding for the end of April 2015, but the resorts I've picked have been way out of our price range for the guests. I'm not too familiar with what's available for resort in Mexico, and would love your input on resort suggestions. If there are any Vancouver brides planning a wedding in 2015, I would love to know where you're doing it at, and how much your airfare and hotel costs ended up being, since all my quotes have been from $2600-$3300 per person/week. I appreciate all your help :)

Hi!  I'm a Vancouver bride also, and am getting married on June 5, 2014 in Mexico!

My wedding is at the Ocean Coral and Turquesa, and my guests are paying $1659 per person for their package (we used Transat Holidays).

There are lots of resorts in the "under $2000" range - Ocean Coral & Turquesa, Riu Resorts, Bahia Principe, etc.  When I first got engaged I was looking at Excellence, Secrets, Dreams, Now, Sandals, etc but my Mom told me that no one would attend my wedding since the rates were so expensive.

Let me know if you need any help!

Thank you for your help @@MrsSheppardToBe :) it was unbelievable how expensive the rates were... Did you go through a TA to do your bookings? or did you use one of those companies that specialize in Destination Weddings (and don't charge a fee). I'm just wondering if both will give similar rates, or one will be cheaper than the other.

At the Ocean Turquesa, were you able to see what each wedding package looked like with its decorations etc.? And does it include a cake and bride bouquet etc.? Do your guests go over the complimentary guests that are included in the package, and if so, do you know how much extra it is per person after??

Sorry for all the questions, I'm stressing lol

Being in Vancouver, have you considered the west coast of Mexico? There are some spectacular resorts - Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas. Dreams has a stunning resort in Cabo. I don't know what the rates are but I'm thinking it would be quite a bit less expensive from Vancouver.

You could check out the vendor reviews on this site and see what past brides have to say about some of the resorts. See if any of them might fit what you're looking for.

Congrats and good luck! Happy planning! This site is a great resource of tips and ideas!

I went through a destination weddings specialist.. we went over lots of resorts until I found the perfect one for me!  The whole process took about 4 months lol!

After I booked my wedding at Ocean Turquesa, they sent me photos of the different wedding venues, cakes, flowers... honestly it wasn't a big deal for me to see all this beforehand.  It is the Caribbean after all, and ANY 4.5 star resort will be amazing and beautiful!

My wedding package includes 30 guests, but they do have a package that includes 40 guests.  I have 25, so I'm not in danger of going over 30.  All resorts charge a different fee per person after you reach the amount of complimentary guests in the package... it's usually somewhere between $30-60.

Don't worry about asking a lot of questions!  It's overwhelming when you first start the whole process but it gets easier!  Start off by making a list of people you think will come to your wedding so you have a rough guest count... figure out the budget for the trip for your guests.  $1600-1700 will get you a beautiful 4.5-5 star resort.  Once you've narrowed down a budget, it's time to start checking out resorts!

Using a destination wedding travel specialist is good because they can help you find resorts that fit your needs and budget.  They also deal with all the guests as far as making the reservations and taking the payment for the deposits.

The hardest part for me was making the reservation... once you choose a resort you need 10 guests to place deposits in order to secure a room block/plane seats for your party.  Once you've got all your deposits in and your reservation is made all the fun stuff can be arranged!

Let me know if you have any other questions!

I'm a Vancouver bride as well. I am definitely going with a travel agent. Most will price match if you find anything cheaper on your own. They do all the work and you just send all your family and friends to one go to person to arrange travel. I couldn't imagine putting myself through that and I'm a pretty organized person. Lots to choose from in Vancouver. Haven't heard the prices yet because I'm still deciding on the agent. My jan 2015 wedding I am hoping no more than 1700 per person.

I am waiting for my quotes back (hoping its not too outrageous) where did you get your quotes from? I am hoping to choose and get quotes back and let everyone know by late March **fingers crossed**

Marlin Travel are great! We used an office here in Toronto for our Jamaica wedding and our experience was excellent!

Happy planning ladies!

  • 4 weeks later...

I had exactly the same problem!! I was looking into Dreams Riveria Maya, Palace Resorts, and the Paradisus Cancun which were all way too expensive. I tried various TA and they were all coming back close to $2k.

We ended up booking with Paradisus Cancun and did not book a package with a tour operator. Instead, we booked flights and hotel separately which will cost us about $1700 (as opposed to $2k). We may not all be traveling together but we got one of the hotels we loved :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
