you have to keep on top of everything with Carol.  Originally I was supposed to have the wedding at the beach palapa but within the past month or so requested just to do the regular beach location.  When she sent me the list to finalize the detail it still said beach palapa.  When I called her out on it she sent me a copy of my original location request...so I had to go back through all my emails and find the one asking to switch to the regular beach location.  Her response to that email was she would put in the request. (obviously she hasn't followed through) Since that email I have also requested info on the size of the sheers used.  Soooo basically she keeps dropping the ball.  What I love is that she copied her supervisor when she emailed me my original request.  Oh no honey....I was sure to copy him in my response with the updated email.

Also...you mentioned you have a complimentary package.  How many guest are you having?

@talicea7812, thanks! I've tried to keep my thumb on her so far by using the original email strand in any reply that way every email sent between us is included. I just signed up for the Always and Forever package that can qualify to be complimentary if you are booked in a certain room category for 7 nights or something like that and have a certain number of guests. We are inviting about 35-40 I believe but I expect probably 25? Not sure yet.

Hello Brides,

I am getting married on Nov 8th, 2014 @ 11am at Azul Fives.  I am expecting around 80+ guest (maybe close to 100).  I've selected the "Always and Forever" wedding package.  This package has minimal decorations and I am interested in adding my own touches.  I've read a few responses suggesting to bring your own decorations with setup fee of $250.  My biggest concern is traveling with the decorations and favors for guest.  I do have a wedding planner who will be traveling with me to the resort.  Should I have her bring these items?  I just don't want to be stressed out over this when traveling.

We are planning to do the private event/reception following the wedding.  I haven't yet decided the location as our wedding is taking place in the AM.  My fiance and I are just really excited about being able to have so many family and friends attend our wedding.  We both LOVE to party and would really like a fun filled reception.  I hoped to add my own decorations to this as well.  Does anyone have any opinions regarding the DJ?  The cost is like $1500-$2000.  Pretty steep for a DJ that I am not familiar with.  I did read somewhere that you are able to send them music (happy about that).  I've also heard from some past brides who used the DJ that they would have also been okay using the IPOD & Speaker setup.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

@@Jb2b I haven't gotten that far into my planning but I've seen positive feedback regarding the preferred DJ. You can check in the El Dorado forums too because I believe the same DJ is preferred there as well. You have to consider whether using an outside DJ is worth the extra $800 (or 3 room nights) tacked on to your total or if it will be just as much to use the preferred DJ. I think I'm just using an IPOD and speaker as we are not having a full reception just a dinner (possibly a private beach BBQ) and then moving on to the bar afterward. We're having a reception at home a month or two after we return so I don't feel paying for two receptions is necessary. If you're considering just using your iPod with speakers, I have heard there are apps you can use to help keep the music flowing and it fades music between the songs? May want to look into that. I can't remember where I saw it mentioned.

@@ng2015, I checked with Carol regarding the sheers for the skydeck and she said they're the same size as the ones for the beach gazebo. If you're considering bringing your own though I would make sure they're a little long to be safe. I also got confirmation that my ceremony was moved to 4:00! Yay! Also have nailed down a photographer just waiting on him to draw up the contract!

@@KaraEbeth Thank you so much for that information!!!!! Which photographer did you end up going with?

On a side note, I emailed my wedding coordinator (who seems to be a tad more on top of responding than my former WC) about if I could book one double occupancy room for two outside vendors for 3 nights and she said yes. If that's the case (and I'm hoping it stays that way) then I'll do that to cover my photographer and DJ outside vendor fee (if I go with the outside DJ) and then just request that the room be next door to my sister and brother in law this way they can use it as a play room for their kids or something.

@@talicea7812 I finally got a chance to check out the bakery Zaida Marcos and she seems amazing! Did you go with her for your cake?

@@ng2015 no problem and thank you for the info that is good to know! I am going with Juan Navarro Photography, he's been great to communicate with so far and he is sending me the paperwork Monday so we can sign the contract but has reserved the date for us already. I'm really happy with our choice. I am looking into booking the photographer in a room for 3 days (if it's less than $800) so I can actually make the price for a room cheaper for my brother or someone since it would probably be the price for a single occupant otherwise. @@talicea7812 gave me that idea! @@talicea7812 your day is fast approaching so excited for you! I am slowly making my way through your planning journal (I keep getting interrupted) but I am loving it so far, you have done an awesome job! I may need to become a site supporter I am tired of not being able to see attachments haha. I am considering starting a planning journal also, there doesn't seem to be a lot of them for Azul Resorts or at least Azul Beach....this way I can keep te journal as I progress with planning to keep all info straight hahaha.

@@ng2015 you will have to check out @@talicea7812 planning thread it's called Tina's Peacock wedding I believe or search "planning journals" and it will bring up all kinds of journals with great ideas. I think you can just do it by starting a topic and continuously posting. Thought it was a good idea though!

don't forget to talk to your outside vendor about discounting their prices. Don't tell them you are booking them as guests.  Just discuss the $800 fee.  I was able to negotiate lower prices and once contracts/plans were set I added them as guest.  Double saving :)

So glad Im able to help other brides out! The outside fees are insane! ive been on forums for other hotels and ladies are complaining about $300 for fee.  hahaha...they have no idea :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
