that's why my DW is for immediate family only... when we get back I will send out announcements with a pic of us on the Beach and have an Open reception at our home....simple...stress free...

I just need to decide should I tell the other ppl we are getting married and going to cancun..or wait to just send out the announcement.... I just don't wanna hear all the drama before I leave for cancun :D

haha...I didn't want to do only immediately family bc for my side its only my mom.

Then there's my FI's mother. She is obnoxious. I'm dreading the thought of being on vacation with her.  I could write an entire blog devoted to her.

When this is all said and done...im not talking to problem maid. I see where our friendship ranks with her and I've always been the type to just cut people off who do no good for me. The bitchy side of me is trying to make her hold on bc I feel like she owes me. I should prob tell her to F-off... but like I said, I feel like she needs to pay her dues.

Oh I feel you on that...u had no choice but to include other relatives and friends at the DW :P

It will be 11 immediate family there.... so I'm good with that....

When we have our small reception back home we will show the DVD/pics at that time...soon as we get them

back from vendor.

Good for you @@talicea7812 time to put your foot down, I am interested to hear what she says back about that. I cut people like that off too.

@@beccafries and @@talicea7812 We plan on just doing a party when we get back as well....somewhere cheap. Our house isn't big enough to have everyone over here. Originally we were going to rent a big tent and do a hog roast or something at at my moms (she has a lot of land) but the cost for the tent plus lights and all that would be more than to just find a cheap hall to rent. I really wanted to find a band but we will see how budget is after all of the fees from Lomas. Have you guys looked at the preferred photogs? The other option besides Caribe, Matias or something like that seems to have nice work then I look at the cost and it's $1500 for one hour seriously?! I was just going to go with Caribe but I've seen so many complaints about them.....so now I'm shopping around to see if someone will work with us on their package prices to make up for the $800 fee.....found some very nice very reasonably priced photographers but with the $800 fee it just sends it over the budget. Maybe I should just send one of our guests to a photography class instead?!

We are inviting parents, siblings, and close friends to Mexico. We both come from divorced families so inviting the extended family (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins) really made the guest list too massive. I feel kind of bad because there are a couple of aunts and uncles I would like there but others not so much. I feel like I can't invite one if I'm not going to invite them all? Same for my dads parents....growing up I was pretty close to them but now not so much. I was just going to send out invites to be nice even though I didn't think some people would go but I was afraid more would RSVP than I thought and it would be way beyond my budget for Mexico lol. Plus certain family members can't play nice with both sides of the family so they can't come! Hopefully that makes sense..... I know there will probably be hurt feelings but they'll get over it.

@@MariCorrea23 Congratulations! I'm getting married on 1/24 :)

@@KaraEbeth I'm sooo sorry to hear that you're going through this. Your friends should be there to support you no matter what and if they don't like what you're planning, then like you said, they should keep that to themselves and just decline the invite. I agree with dad in that the way most people will look at it (or should look at it) is like their vacation.  Don't cancel your dream! you wanted to have a destination wedding for a reason!! If people want to go, they'll find a way to get there. I also don't think that you should bend over backwards to have to accommodate them by paying (unless you and your fiance can afford to and you want to).  They have a long time to plan and put away money. Don't do anything out of guilt! The people that are important will be there. I promise it will work out!!

Another idea is that rather than feel guilted into paying for anyone, you could always do a little get together for people that couldn't attend once you get back home, like in a restaurant or something...this way they don't feel left out and no bad feelings happen.

Hope this helps and hang in there :)

Keep us posted

@@KaraEbeth

the photographer was a huge issue for me.  I was totally not impressed by either photographer for the same reasons you mentioned.  Last year I was actually shopping around for a coaching position and said that if I get it I would splurge and fly in my photog from home...Well lo and behold I got the job!!!  So Im paying for my girl to stay the 3 nights (I actually ended up extending her stay a day bc it was cheaper to pay the $200 for the extra night then to have her fly in on a Friday) so a win win.  I actually saved a little bit and she got an extended vacation. I know not everyone can do that... haha. I wouldn't have if it wasn't for the extra job!

Anyway, not sure what your budget is or if you are interested in getting a videographer but if you want both...look into companies that provide both services. You will avoid paying the outside vendor fee twice. Also, talk to the vendors and tell them about the fee.  Usually they will offer discounts on their prices to help balance out the fee. Im now in a similar situation with the video. I really want the cinematic style but Caribe and matias don't do that. So I will have to pay the fee to bring someone else in.  Dunno if we are going to be able to afford it.

Another suggestion...since u seem to have a situation similar to me with sticking to budget.  I set up a registry on honeymoon wishes.  My FI and I have been together for 5 years and already have an established life.  We don't need household items nor do we have any place to put them.  So the registry is set up so that everyone makes monetarty donations to our wedding/honeymoon.  If your interested in checking it out u can look mine up.  Honeymoonwishes.com-  Tina Alicea

My shower is this weekend so we are hoping that the gifts will help us afford the videographer!

Also @@beccafries, I forgot to mention...I would just be up front with your friends about your plans to have a DW and with just immediate family and that you plan to have a reception when you return. People may have hurt feelings about it but I would hope they understand...

@@ng2015 thank you for your kind words. :) I'm trying hard to not let it bother me, my mom and stepdad ended up paying their deposit for the trip yesterday so they came around. I'm hoping everyone else warms up to the idea too but if not then thats fine, it's not their wedding.

@@talicea7812 I've been in contact with a few photographers down there and some have offered to pay half the fee if I purchase a certain level photo package and others have offered a discount. I haven't made a final decision yet but definitely a few good options. I was thinking about trying out the WedIt video cameras, thought it sounded cool. I've never heard of honeymoon wishes, thanks for the idea! I will for sure check it out. My fiance and I have been together 6 years so we too have a pretty established household and our kitchen lacks in storage so we do not have room to store a bunch of gadgets.

@@KaraEbeth you're right, it's not their wedding. It'll be gorgeous and you'll have a great time!  On a different note, I ended up booking Playaweddings for photography AND videography. They're one company so i'm paying the outside fee only once. They also throw in an extra hour for free to accommodate the outside vendor fee. I had looked into the wedit cameras myself but then found out that they won't edit the film for you so you have to be pretty savvy in order to do it on your own. Also, I'm in the same boat as you and talicea in that I've been living with my fiance for many years and we have everything so I looked into a bunch of honeymoon registries including the one talicea mentioned above and they're great but they all charge a fee for using their services. They make you choose between making your guests pay upfront or a portion is taken out of the gift before you get it. It's not a bad idea, just something to think about...food for thought.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
