Our plan right now is to just have my parents and brother join me and FI on our island elopement adventure (FI's parents don't wish to attend). I think we will be doing an informal AHR once we return (imagining just a big dinner party--no dancing, no big dress). FI doesn't think we should make a registry at all since we aren't inviting anyone to the wedding, just this AHR after. We wouldn't openly advertise the registry, but I think it would be nice to have one in case people ask about it. We have only lived together since last June but are still in an apartment at the moment. For Christmas we just bought each other a KitchenAid mixer and a Dyson vacuum, the two really big ticket items that I would have wanted to register for anyway.

How do I convince him that it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a registry just in case? I want him to be involved in picking stuff out for it too. Also, any ideas on where we should register at? I've looked briefly at Williams & Sonoma, Crate & Barrel. Will probably look more into Bed, Bath, & Beyond too as I'm sure I could find some things there.

My FI and I really didn't want to register but my parents convinced us because a few people kept asking, we have a small condo downtown Toronto and only just started looking into buying a home (so far we haven't found any we liked) so we really didn't have space for anything.

We only picked one store, The Bay it's similar to your Macy or Nordstrom.  We only registered for bar items, wine glasses (red and white) brandy snifters, etc

We are storing our stuff at my parents, we only gave out our information on registry stuff when ask. We tried to keep everything at a 'normal' price items, so who ever was looking at it could pick out things in their price range.

I went with my mom and my grandmother to register, my FI didn't want to come and it wasn't a big deal to me if he did. So maybe you could just go solo with a few people if this isn't too important to you

I have also registered... albeit I only have about 12 items on my registry because my fiancé and I purchased a house in 2012 together and honestly have everything we really need. I mean there are a few things here and there that would be nice but are certainly not necessary (we've clearly survived the last two years without it!). But I know some people will ask and have no idea what to give, so we just registered at Sears and I will only give out the information to people who ask. I've let my family and my in-laws to be know so if anyone asks them they can let them know as well. Also I pretty much did it all online and will most likely go in to pick out a few more things.

like csho & krisdaversa, we pretty much have the necessities and were leaning against a registry.  however, people will ask so we are going to create one for things we could use but do not necessarily need and refer people to it when they ask and for events like my bridal shower.

@@pandahugs - we are picking based on what we would like and at various price points to accommodate varying budgets: Crate & Barrel, Bed Bath & Beyond, Macy's. DF thinks we should add Target but I don't think we need to.  P.S. I'm am SOOO jealous you are getting married in lovely T&C! :)

Nice to see what everyone else is doing. My fiancé refuses to have a registry -he thinks people are paying enough to go. His family are the ones asking for the registry (go figure). This week we received a target registry flier in the mail with a $20 gift card once you sign up... He loved that but only wants to sign up for the gift card lol.

@@Bigleap35 - lol that's pretty funny!  the way i got my fiance on board was to make plans to do the registry by myself or during an outing with my mom. out of fear i'd pick only things i would like, he caved. do you think if you make a similar "threat" under the guise of setting up the registry for his family members would help? lol

@@girlinthecity97 yeah I think 3 is plenty of variety! How big is your wedding going to be? Haha I could present him with that alternative, but I'm not sure if he will care even less and just give up completely or if he truly will want a part in it. I guess either way it's fine! Been doing some more budgeting and will need to save more than originally planned (but including flight and rooms all in the weddingmoon) so that is more of a primary concern now.

Absolutely create a registry! I received thoughtful gifts from co-workers and people who weren't even invited to my wedding. I was SO surprised and it was such a nice gesture from people. I registered at Bed Bath & Beyond and Pottery Barn.

By the way, you will LOVE Turks and Caicos! I was just there last year with my mom for a girls getaway :) Most beautiful beaches and water I have ever seen. We stayed at the Reagant Palms.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
