Hi! My name is Kristina and I got engaged June 19th 2013 (my Birthday  :))

I am from Toronto, Canada and after a few months of roughly looking into planning a wedding in our beautiful city we have decided a destination wedding is where it is at! No drama or unwanted guest added by either of our parents!

We will be departing Toronto on January 13th 2015 to sunny Cuba where we will be getting married at Melia Las Dunas we also will be staying there a week after for our 'honeymoon' I guess but later on we will be going to Europe.

Our colours may not be anyone's first choice but they are purple, lime green and hot pink.

We have a small wedding party made up of my best friend and FI's sister and he will only have a best friend on his side.

I ask my bridal party to be my bridesmaids by making a little box of goodies.

I took a white kraft box and scrunched up baby blue and white tissue paper and placed 27 dresses and bridesmaids in it along with a mini bottle of champagne and a ring pop. I tired the box up with white and cream tulle and attached little pearls and crystals on it and added plastic baby blue butterflies and a larger wooden ring I painted.

I also made t-shirted for them with the role I was asking them to be and tied it with the same tulle and a baby blue and white butterfly.

I made a card that said:

                                    Laugh with me

                                    Cry with me

                                    Stand with me

                                    Plan with me

                                Will you be my Bridesmaid?

I tend to take my ring off a lot (cooking cleaning showering or sleeping) so I made a ring holder for beside my bed

My FI and I were planning on inviting everyone who would have be on our list in Toronto to our destination wedding.  We spent a few months looking for pricing and dealing with some great and not so great travel agents. The bottom line was we knew once we got our price and put down our deposit our guest had 90 days to put down theirs to lock in their price and reserve their room.

We wanted to let our guest know before Christmas because we didn't want anyone to feel short of money or blindsided by our choice in picking a destination wedding.

So we sent out postcards letting everyone know what we were doing and to get the ball started. At this point we didn't know where we would be going or the cost of it.

This is just a screen shot of the postcard we sent out (we did catch the error of the year before it was printed)

Congratulations Kristina! Being engaged and planning a wedding is so much fun! (for the most part) it does have it's stressful moments. :S

I love how you asked your friends to be bridesmaids, it's so creative!! I wish I had thought of something like that! All I did was make phone calls, and one girl I asked her at the movie theatre right before the movie was starting, and then we had to be quiet haha

Happy planning!!

Ohh I love this blog Kristina! And I love your ring holder!!! I saw one like that on Pinterest and wanted one but wasn't sure where to get it... never thought to make my own! I also take my ring off all the time... You must be getting excited less then a year left!

I think I saw it either on Pinterest or Etsy? I went to Winners found a small frame I liked and then went to the Dollar Store, they were selling them on Etsy for $25+ I made mine for less then $10.

I'm excited but I know the year will go fast, we are already half way through January.

You must be excited, yours is so close! Do you have much left to do?

I think I might make one... I think I'll leave that project until after the wedding though!

It is coming up soon! I honestly cannot believe how quickly the last 6 months went by! I thought it would take forever, but its been flying! I am happy I got an early start on my DIY projects though because I don't feel stressed to get everything done last minute! I have all the big stuff done, now its just finishing up little projects I started or intend to start. I just have left to find table numbers... I want wooden ones that stand on their own but am having a hard time finding them... Michaels only has slim ones. But I am planning on going to a wood store in the near future lol to see if they have what I need. And then we're also having a catholic service once we return from Cuba on the 17th... so I am also trying to get everything done for that before we leave since we won't have much time to get ready for that once we get back from Cuba. But everything is under control but I keep thinking of new things all the time!

@@csho I seriously am not a fan of this new site but if you click the 'More Reply Options' beside the 'Post' button it shows you the old way where you just click choose file and attach this file

I also picked up these this weekend, I am going to get battery operated tea lights and I also picked up larger ones to place the bouquets in from the bridal party

Thanks so much!!!! I had no idea how to add them lol!

Love those! They are so nice! Where did you get them?

You are very welcome, I know how frustrating it was not being able to upload pictures.

I got them from Ikea  :)  They have 3 different sizes, they come in red and white and they also have 2 sizes of trays...bought one of the larger trays for my perfumes.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
