Hi Ladies,

Just sent the Save the Dates for our Feb 14th 2015 wedding at Azul Fives. Now getting into figuring out the details. Trying to customize our wedding while also trying to limit how Karisma nickle and dimes you for everything. Already deciding to use an outside photographer and DJ. I liked someone's strategy of paying for the hotel room for both, and then using the room for our guests instead. Now trying to figure out hair and makeup. I unfortunately don't have someone in my wedding party who could do either for me and I haven't read much on here about the in-house stylists. Any brides have feedback or recommendations? I'm debating on having my bridal party and me go into town to a salon to have our hair and makeup done so we don't have to pay an outside vendor fee. Has anyone done this and would recommend the salon they chose?

Any 2014 brides have any experience with the free events promotion? How does that work with choosing the venue and menu?

FYI/ I just asked the question of a bride who got married last week at Azul beach and said she used the unlimited private events! Hope she brings good news!

Hi there brides!

I know I'm a bit late to the game on this one - but I thought I'd see what advice I could lend. I'm a wedding photographer in the area (and yes - you should totally book me, there's my self-promotion) but I've shot a wedding at Azul Fives and here's my two cents:

I wouldn't book the sky deck from May-August and during midday - It's really, really hot. It's all white, and if your ceremony is there during the midday sun - it's going to lead to some unflattering light for photos, not to mention lots of sweat. :/

Better news: The coordinators seemed very professional and attentive.

The cocktail hour at the beach was nice and relaxing. The beach itself can be a little murky at times (the beaches between Cancun and Playa usually aren't as clear) - But, you can't complain too much about Mexican beaches :)

The reception was set-up around the pool area, and the dance floor was under a giant pergola. All the guests seemed to have a blast and everyone looked pretty happy!

If anyone needs further help, I'd love to help where I can!

Oh! @@reynbow - Look at Waves Salon in Playa. They're really good, do weddings and speak English :)

I was wondering how much was it to pay for 3 days at the hotel? I'm wondering whether we should have gone that route for our photographer and videographer

thanks for the tip. What is the light/heat like in August at around 5 over in the Mayan Riviera? is it still really strong? It's hard to imagine now that it's already snowing where I live haha!

Do you have pictures of the reception by the pool area? I would love to see them :)

@@TinkerSofi

Three nights' stay in a deluxe room will be roughly $600 opposed to the $800 outside vendor fee.

awesome! Good to know in case I need more vendors haha :)

@@TinkerSofi - It's SNOWING?! Where!? I can't even process that! But yes, August is most likely to be hot and humid, like most of the year. 5 PM will definitely be better than when I shot there at 2 PM. The sun will still be a little hot, but the temperature will be on it's way down (the light will be more flattering at 5). But it's also getting to the start of the rainy season, so you might get a few 'cool off' showers or partly cloudy days which are nice. I personally think May is the most blazing month and September is the rainiest month if that helps. Last year it poured everyday from August 27th-Oct. 3rd - but this year has been much better - so it all depends on the weather that year, haha.

And sorry, I don't have photos of that reception anymore. I archive photos for a year on a hard drive, then keep a few of my favorites for my portfolio - but I couldn't find any from the reception, I'm sorry ;( I did a search on here and found someone blogged about it and there is a picture of the set-up http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/topic/38283-katkens-azul-sensatori-review-6509/ and on pinterest: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/371054456771166836/

Good Luck!

    • The cooking method can double the calorie content of a meal, so learn about healthy cooking without having to add extra fats, like using a steamer,  a rotisserie , a slow cooker , a pressure cooker, a grill. Once you cook your own meals, you can control the calorie content because your control the cooking method and all the ingredients. A lot of people are overweight because they keep eating food that they did not cook.
    • I have stayed at Dreams La Romana and Dreams Dominicus.  The two resorts are very different in style and decor. A few comparison points are below and fact sheets are attached for both.   Both resorts are approx 45 minutes from Punta Cana airport, close proximity to Saona Island, Catalina Island and Altos de Chavon. Top championship golf courses in the Caribbean are just minutes away including Teeth of the Dog, Dye Fore, The Links and La Estancia – all designed by world-famous Pete Dye. Restaurants are similar at both resorts.  Both offer the Explorers Club for Kids.  Dreams Dominicus  Brand new resort and in 2016 488 rooms (however additional construction was underway) More contemporary style & decor Good beach area Rooms were very nice Preferred Club located in main lobby and adjacent to main pool & beach front Food was good Center plaza area with nighttime entertainment Main lobby is small, but outdoor bar off lobby is nice Dreams La Romana Originally built in 2003 & opened as Dreams La Romana in 2008 756 rooms Recently renovated and new preferred club adults only lounge & pool added  Rooms are more traditional Caribbean decor Grounds are very lush and tropical Good beach area food was good    Dreams Dominicus fact sheet.pdf Dreams La Romana fact sheet.pdf
    • My sister has done it but with the destination wedding, only super close family members and friends came since it was expensive and farther. It was great though.
