We're booking our wedding for May 2015!!! I'm beyond excited!!!!

I wanted to start making Save the dates, and wanted to actually send them out by February, THIS YEAR! So, in a month :)

Our wedding party isn't going to be large, but I just want to make sure everyone has enough time to collect coin and be able to join us for our extremely special day.  By May 2015, we will have been together for 10 YEARS!!!!

I wasn't sure if a year 1/2 is too much time?  Or if it is good time!?! We've given everyone a heads up about our wedding plans, but not the date.

Please give me your input :)

I am letting everyone know one year in advance since they will have to save money - i would let the closest people know of the date (in a conversation or text etc) then send the Save the Dates one year in advance... and if you are sending formal invitations do it 6 months in advanced to remind everyone! :)

hi all:

like @@Carlicardenas, i plan to do 1 year in advance (sending save-the-dates next month).  To cut down on invitation costs, I'm including an interest/intent RSVP with the save-the-dates (e.g., yes, no, maybe so) so i'll have an idea of how many invitations to make/order for those who are yes and maybes.

@@lydiasusi - i say the earlier the better because you know your guests best. most articles i read say you can send out save-the dates 12-14 months out but no closer than 9 months from your wedding date.

@@Carlicardenas - i'm a february 2015 bride too! we are in the process of nailing down locations. :)

I am getting married January 2015. I started looking for quotes in July 2013 and sent out save the dates in December (at the start before Christmas shopping started) letting them know the details and that if they couldn't go we totally understood. We set up a wedding website so people could RSVP or send either of us a message and to just keep everyone in the loop

We also put in the save the dates that January 2014 we were putting down a deposit and if they wanted to come they had 90 days to put their deposit down and then had 9 months to pay it off.  We just ordered samples of formal wedding invites that we will send out in July (6 months till departure)

A year and half may be a little too much time to get real numbers BUT letting people know yours plans so they can save is always great!

The interest/intent RSVP is GREAT!.. how are you wording that on your save the dates? what kind of save the dates are you sending?

When in Feb are you thinking of? we picked the albatros terrace bc we "might" have more than 80 people :s

its so uncertain right now on the attendees :s

How are you doing with decorations? thats my BIG question mark bc I know i should be spending money on that for the pictures to look good.. but flowers are SOOOOOOOOOOOO expensive and no one will take them so it would be waste! :(

When you mention the down payments, are you going through a travel agent to get a lower rate for guests rooms?  I am thinking of going through Applevacations.com, which we go through for traveling, to see if we can somehow get our guests a lower rate.

Please inform me a little more on this :)

We are going through a travel agent. I thought it would be the easiest to put out an fires from people since its hard enough to plan a trip with just my FI! and having questions coming at me I didn't know the answer to it is just easier to give them her phone number and email address. Plus it gave our group the chance to pay off the trip over a few months.

My FI and I went to more then a dozen places and emailed more then 2 dozen places to look at prices plus looked online for a few weeks, the travel agent gave us the cheapest price and is actually the same price a few brides paid 3 years ago.

If you need a good travel agent I would be more then happy to give you her info  :)

@@Carlicardenas - 2/7/15 is the target date but i just found out one of the properties we are looking at doesn't have that day available #sadness! the positive is it isn't our top property choice so far so.... the interest rsvp will be separate since my save-the-dates are luggage tags. my sister & a friend also suggested i add a feature to our wedding website so people can rsvp there or mail back the interest rsvp.   the wording will be something along the lines of  this:

help us with our plans...let us know your plans:

_____  count me (plus ___) in!

_____ help! i'm on the fence!

_____ wish i could but enjoy for me!

i agree re flowers! i love flowers and get that they can be pretty expensive but don't feel justified in paying what the resorts are asking as part of the package for non-exotic flowers that will ultimately be thrown out the next day or so.  friends who had dw said they wish they'd cut back on some of the flowers they ordered b/c no one really paid attention to them and they didn't make or break their pics the way they would at a home wedding. i'm thinking of using lots of candles and maybe lanterns. i've seen some really nice concepts where a color runner was used on the table with sand and shells sprinkled with a few different sized silver lanterns.

I am sending magnets because i think they are the ones that people would look at the most, and i want to send out my pictures with it lol

I think i will send out the invites WAY in advance.. so I can ask them to rsvp 5-6 months before the wedding so i can get everything already set by then.. when are you setting the date?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
