At Home Reception - Decorating Ideas

Recommended Posts

Hi ladies,

Have any of you had an at home reception or are planning one?

We have rented a hall for a couple of months after our wedding (it will be the dead of winter in February in Northern Alberta when we get back from Jamaica, so it's better to wait until April for a party! Trust me... wink.gif ) Anyway, we want to show the DVD of our wedding, do a photo slide show, have a DJ and dance the night away!! We'll have a cold buffet, a chocolate fountain, and favours for the guests as well. I anticipate about 100 people.

Does anyone have any ideas for decorating with the beach theme? I would love to see pics of your AHR or any ideas you have! Thanks so much!

we are getting married in Mexico. so our AHR venue said they could do a signature drink such as a margarita and stock mexican beer. Also, doing mexican style food. As for decorating, doing something like this...

For seating assignments...

For favors...flip flop photoframes or personalized margarita mix...(haven't decided yet)

Hi Janelle, I'm just down in Edmonton... we're practically neighbours!

I googled "Jamaican themed party" and lots of cool stuff came up. I think the music will be your biggest bonus, the live music scene seems to be pretty amazing up there in GP, you might even find a band to play! The food would be pretty doable too, coconut shrimp and jerk chicken...

For decorations, you could just get tons of those big palm-type leaves that florist use for greenery, that would look cool. You could do lots with the bright carribean colours too.

I think it would be super cool to extend the whole Jamaica trip into the AHR, especially in the middle of a Northern Alberta winter. Perfect!

Happy planning,

Nancy

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
