@megthomson I know it! I'm hoping that we can get a discount on the rental fees because I work for a government agency and we operate several of them, but I feel like I need decorations and things and I know it will add up really quickly.

Brunch sounds like the perfect idea! Helps keep it more casual I think. I was originally thinking of just renting out a large party room at a restaurant for basically a big family dinner but brunch may be more reasonable budget wise too.

My only logistic question: when do you send out invites for your AHR? Do you wait until after you return from your wedding (so you have pics to use if you want) or so you can use it as a wedding announcement? Or is that not enough notice for your guests (assuming your AHR is about a month or two after you return home)?

I am going to send them right before we leave i think and just use an engagement photo rather than a wedding photo. I know that some brides send them at the same time that they send their wedding invitations, so depending on how early you intend to send your wedding invitations and what picture, if any, you want to use on the announcement.

I think the date of your AHR will depend on when to send the invites. And how casual/formal the party will be. I would think a month's notice would be fine, but it depends on your crowd and if you think they need more notice than that. We aren't really doing invites since our party is so casual, so once we book the room we'll just send an email and text and say hey, hope you can stop by! Nothin fancy from us! If you wanted fancy, you should have come to the wedding! :P haha

Haha sounds good! We are hoping to keep it like a casual big family dinner basically. Between him and myself, we have about 75 family members alone if we just count aunts, uncles, cousins and their SO/children. Idk if all his family would go but I want to have some of my friends there too. There's a few restaurants in mind that have event/banquet rooms that may work so I'll have to scout those out. We'll have to see how our work schedule works out in the weeks after our wedding (I work weekends once a month but he works every other weekend).

Is everyone re-wearing their wedding gown for their at home reception? And are there any plans on doing a little mock-ceremony at the reception? I am considering doing a little mock-ceremony so that those who are not traveling to our destination wedding do not feel so left out. Also considering videography in the islands and playing the video at the reception. Any thoughts?

I wish the weather didn't have such an effect on our plans!  I would love to have our reception in a backyard but since that isn't an option, we chose a small bar in the city.  We've decided to keep it casual, too.  The whole point of us having a DW was to keep it intimate and casual so we are doing the same with our AHR.  We rented out a small pub for a few hours on a Saturday afternoon so we could invite families.  We plan on doing a pub crawl around Philly afterwards with any adults who want to join.  Our guest list is 150.  We are having a 2 hr open bar and are putting out appetizers.  I made a slide show and we will show that and our wedding highlight video on a projection screen that the bar already has.  We're both dressing super casual.  I can't imagine wearing my dress in February walking around the city to different bars.  ;) I'd be freezing!  I love to bake, so I plan on making cupcakes since we chose not to have a cake at our wedding.  That's pretty much it!

We are having a video done of our wedding and we'll have a slideshow of photographs that can be shown also. I still can't decide on my dress-or feels weird to wear it again-and definitely not doing anything similar a ceremony. I don't think we'll even do our first dance or anything-I debated about it, but I don't want to mess with it and it won't be special the second time around. Everyone I want to be at my ceremony will be there.
