Down To Our Jamaica Short List

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone! I am new to this website and am just looking for a little bit of help... we have narrowed down our search for the perfect destination wedding location to Jamaica (for November 2014), and now just need to take the plunge and pick our resort. We have it down to a short list, so I am hoping that after I post the names of those resorts here, anyone who has been to any of these locations will be able to share their thoughts / experiences and help us to make our final decision. The resorts that have made our short list are:

Grand Palladium

Gran Bahia Principe

Iberostar Rose Hall

RIU Ocho Rios

The specific characteristics that we are especially interested in are the following:

-quality of the beach

-quality and variety of the food

-flexibility and affordability of the wedding packages

-overall atmosphere of the resort

-overall experience as a wedding destination

Thank you everyone for your help!!

I been to a wedding a few years back at grand bahia Principe and from what I remember, they have a man made beach that I wasn't crazy about. I went to RIU ocho Rios and they're beach was okay but I absolutely love the resort and their service. Their price is great also. I'm a fan of Riu and decide to get married at Riu Negril because I never been to Negril and I heard Negril have a better beach is more beautiful. Hope this helps

Thanks for the tips :)

My brother got married at Riu Negril and I think it was absolutely fantastic. I don't want to copy him for resorts though :P

If you want a great beach, awesome food and two choices to have your wedding ceremony go for Couples Swept Away. We have just come back from there and it was great. Pricilla the wedding co-ordinate was great too...not to mention digital memories collection ~(our photographers)

Hi ladies. Gran Bahia Principe Jamaica bride here, and you will find a huge forum of brides from there as well.

Obviously I will have good things to say since we got married there. our short list was Lady Hamilton and GBPJ and we ended up with GBPJ because of the price point for packages and the wedding service. The beach wedding gazebo is unique in that you get your almost totally private wedding but you're right on the beach. We had nothing wrong with the food and drinks at all. Both were great. The atmosphere is awesome too. The wedding service we received was top notch, and we had a lot of things go wrong before we even got to Jamaica. But the WC stuck with us and didn't give up, and in the end both WCs signed our marriage licence. So I am totally on the side of Gran Bahia.

I know there are other brides that will give you their view on the other resorts so you'll have lots of information that will help you make your choice.

Good luck and happy planning!

I was married at Iberostar Rose Hall Suites last May and it was AMAZING. The nice thing about the Iberostar property is that you have a resort for every price-point in your group as there are 3 different resorts (including an adults only), all of which I got to see and all of which are stunning. We stayed at the Suites and were able to utilize all of what the Suites had to offer as well as the Beach resort - so that means their restaurants, pools, beach, bars etc. If you stayed at the Grand you would have access to everything on the complex, but we had children in our group an felt the Suites was a happy medium.

Every inch of that complex is manicured and gorgeous, and you see people working night and day to make it that way. The beach is private, and beautiful. We never had any issues getting a spot by the water regardless of what time it was. The staff is out every morning to push back the sand in the swimming area. The sea creatures tend to make their way up overnight, and the Iberostar does a good job keeping them away. The beach itself is very clean, no seaweed. The Star Friends are great, and they really do a good job getting you into the beach and pool fun !

The food was AWESOME. We got a chance to dine at both Beach and Suites restaurants and found the quality of food to be above average. The juice bar in the morning buffet was great, and I have a new found love of fresh melon juice. They also have a Jamaican BBQ twice a week with authentic Jamaican food on the beach with a steel pan band - this was our favorite dining experience (besides the wedding of course). Our wedding dinner was AMAZING, and to this day wish I could find Salmon that tasted like that .... sighhhh. Funny thing is, I don't even like Salmon ... it was that good ... lol. You can find something for everyone here though, even your friends/family that stayed at the club till 3am ;)

Iberostar just rolled out different packages, so I can't speak much to those. But I was very jealous of the new brides when they came out ! Even if you didn't like the packages, you could do the basic package and add on. Iberostar has many different options, and work with many different vendors to make your day extra special :D

I would recommend this resort 1,000+ times, it was that amazing. My friends and family loved it so much my parents will be having their vow renewal next year at an Iberostar property in the Dominican. If you have any questions, please feel free to message me !!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
