Increased Wedding Taxes in Mexico??

Fellow brides planning 2014 weddings in Mexico -- have you received any information from your resorts regarding the new Mexican tax reform? I am planning a May 2014 wedding at a resort in Playa del Carmen, and they just emailed me stating that all of my wedding-related fees now have a government-mandated tax increase of 5%, even though we have signed contracts, deposits, etc for the original price. Just wanted to see if any other brides have received this information, and if any resorts have offered compensation. This is not the type of news I want to hear 6 months before the wedding!!

 We also got the same notice from our venue. They offered a discount if we paid our amount in full by the end of the year and thus also are avoiding the tax hike.

 

I don't know if there is anything the resort can do about it since it is the tax rate imposed by the government.

      Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010.
