Dress, Hair, Make up

Recommended Posts

I was going to use the resort to save money (Beach Palace), but I've decided to go with Styling Trio for peace of mind. I like the pics they've done and I like that they use airbrush makeup. I know in Mexico they also commonly apply their makeup heavier than I personally like. I"m also Asian and I want to make sure that the artist has worked with Asian eyes and skin tones before which Styling Trio has.

It's definitely a ton of money though! And if I do a hair and makeup trial as well, it's over $200 on top of what I'd be paying for the day  . So I think I"m going to just splurge for the day, and have them come in early enough that we can change things if I don't like it

It's kind of crazy that makeup and hair prices are more than what I'd be paying at home in Toronto!

Styling Trio is who I'm looking at too! Brenda has been super responsive so far with emails, and like you, the fact that they do the airbrush is what sold me. Yes - it is expensive but she says the makeup has a 12 to 14 hour wear time so that's great and I think makes it worth it! And I will probably pick up the cost for my daughter in law too to have hers done. It's one of my boys that is "taking the walk" with me! lol  But that was the one thing when we were married in Jamaica, the makeup did last but looking back now it was heavier than what I normally wear.

Oh yeah - and I'm in Toronto too! Well, I work in Toronto but live west of the city. Lots of canadian brides on this site!

I think we all want to get out of the city after such a terrible winter!

Have you decided your hotel yet?

I am 100% going to book with Styling Trio. She has been super responsive and I agree that the airbrush just seems worth it to me. I'm afraid of my face melting in Mexico otherwise haha. I'm just waiting to lock in my wedding date before I officially book them.  Are you going to get the trial, or just do it the day of? I'm debating this now

@tygrrlily  I agree. It has been one of the worst winters I can remember in a long time! It's strange now to take the train every morning and not see any snow!!!

I had pretty much decided on Gran Porto Real in Playa del Carmen. I love The Royal, which is the sister resort, but the price point is higher than where I want to be so GPR seemed a good alternative. But recently I've had a couple of comments about how very "un-private" the beach is at GPR so I started to rethink the decision. I don't mind a couple of people watching but I'm not up for a beach where the photographer is dodging guys in speedos for pics. I still love the look of the resort and the rooms, and their wedding packages just really seem to fit with what I want so I haven't completely taken it off the table.

The other one that was suggested that I'm really researching is Grand Sunset Princess and I really like what i"m reading about it and the photos that I've found. The wedding packages aren't quite as versatile as GPR and their a little higher in price, but still seem to include what I want. So now I just have to wait and see. We're going to be a really small group - just 8 or 10 so we'll save money only because most packages include for up to 10 or 20 people.

If I confirm Styling Trio I'm definitely going to do the trial. I want to know what I'm getting myself into plus be able to change details when the actual day arrives. I think it will be money well spent. The other place I looked at was MVP - they have a review here but I was told that their makeup style leans more towards what I want to stay away from. Styling Trio was recommended instead. I too like the photos that they have on their site. Very natural looking.

@@acw271011 GPR looks lovely! I know what you mean about privacy though. That was important to me as well, which is why I was really drawn to the hotels with private rooftop places for ceremony (azul sensatori and beach palace). From what I've read about people with beach weddings, it seems like most people are fairly respectful of walking around the cermonies

There are so many beautiful resorts, my head was really spinning trying to read about all of them!

I'm still mulling over the trial - feeling cheap haha. I'll probably see how much we end up paying on everything else before I decide on that. I do like the natural style makeup too - I want to look like myself, just a better version :D. I looked at Tania Tagie as well, but Styling Trio has an agreement with my resort apparently so I can avoid paying the vendor fee. I think that locked it in for me

I'm going with the resort hair and make up.  Fingers are crossed it will look okay.  I think I am going to hit up sephora ahead of time and get a few things JUST IN CASE.

I bought wedding-ish flip flops.  They are Guess... white with a bow and rhinestones.  Here's the link:  http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/guess-tutu-sandals?ID=602089&CategoryID=13247&LinkType=PDPZ1

I am also wanting to use Styling Trio for my hair and makeup... Have you contacted the resort (I know you were considering the Gran Porto) regarding the outside vendor fee??? I CANNOT justify paying 350.00 extra dollars to have them come to me!!

I really want to be able to relax in my own room and get pampered... Also I don't want to accidentally run into my fiance or guests!!!  But I refuse to may the standard outside vendor fee of $350.00 for someone who is only going to be there for a couple hours max!  I can kinda understand the fee (although 3500 is a bit much) for the photog and vidographer but not for just hair and makeup!

Let me know!

Also... ANYONE else with input on this, please let me know!! I'd love to have some fresh reviews for this company! They have excellent previous reviews, and their gallery images are amazing!!!

SORRY!! One more thing! Would you mind letting me know how much they are charging?? You can PM me if you prefer, or if you're not comfortable telling me, that is also fine!! It never hurts to ask!

Thanks!! Sorry for all the questions!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
