I hope I'm posting this in the right forum

I am considering July 6, 2014 for my wedding date in Mexico. As of right now, the prices are great - same as the weeks surrounding it. However, I know they are going to increase as it gets closer to July 4th (especially airline prices). Has anyone done their wedding around this time who can give me some advice? When did prices go up? Do guests complain, or is it better because they may be getting a long weekend anyway? Any input would be appreciated!

Help!

When we booked, we had been considering travelling around Easter (April 2014) and the prices were a fair bit more expensive (about $500/per person). We ended up booking in mid-December for a better rate. I'm not sure how prices would be affected by travelling in a summer month, or what I would guess is low season? My fiance and I went to Mexico in September once, booking last-minute) and got a smoking hot deal to the Sian Ka'an at the Gran Bahia Principe.

I know you also posted in the Now Jade forum. Where would your guests be travelling from? I'm in Canada, and can give you my prices if those would be helpful comparisons for you.

Yes, Easter is huge in Mexico and most Spanish countries.......rivalling Christmas - reflected in peak rates. Chances are very good that off season will give the best deal !

Wishing everyone happy planning and Wonderful Wedding Celebrations - Enjoy !!!

Thanks, ironman! Our guests will be traveling from California, Utah, and New York. So far the prices look great, but I just wonder how soon they need to book (us too). I don't know if the Canadian flight prices would be a great comparison but I certainly appreciate the offer! I'm hoping that if people book by January the prices will stay the same (fingers crossed). :)

One of my brothers is travelling from California, but he ended up booking his airfare and hotel separately because he can only come for three nights. For the AM Resorts (Now, Secrets), they have a weekly "deal" email called Suite Deal you can sign up for. I think he ended up getting a fairly decent rate just booking on expedia, or some equivalent (kayak??). This might be a good option if you have any guests who might be travelling with travel reward points, or if they can get a good flight deal.

When we were looking around the long weekend in April I believe the prices we were quoted were around $2000 per person. I know a girl who went from Edmonton last January and she paid closer to $2500 for the week (so, flights, hotel, taxes, transfers etc...). We did a group booking with Westjet (a Canadian airline) and for our week in December none of our week long all-inclusive packages were over $1500. It was the highest for our guests from New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. It was much cheaper (I think around $1325-$1375) for our guests from Ottawa and Toronto, and from Alberta and BC we are paying around $1425 per person, per week. My guess would be that your prices in July would be even cheaper, since it's a less peak time, and travelling from the USA just seems so much cheaper in general. I'd be curious to hear what you can end up getting!

Have you spoken with a travel agent? At least in Canada (or possibly this is just with Westjet, but I'm sure other airlines have something similar) Now Jade has a deal where if you do a group booking they give the group leader (i.e. the bride and groom) a portion back depending on how many guests book. We just received back a surprise bonus of $1400!

Wow! Thank you for all of the info! That's great to know. I've been looking on orbitz and bookit.com - we want to keep it below $1100 per person (based on at least 3 nights stay) for airfare + hotel. I think my brother may need to contact a travel agent because they're traveling with 2 kids and going from Utah to Mexico to California (Disneyland after the wedding!) then back to Utah. How many were in your group? We only have 30 on the invite list (mostly couples) and I doubt there will be more than 10 rooms booked so I didn't think we could get a deal for a group.

I'm sure you can find deals for <$1100 per person for at least three nights. I just did a search on RedTag.ca for packages from Toronto, departing July 4, and it came back with 5 night packages for $710, plus $360 in tax. That's definitely in your ballpark price-range, plus it's a few extra nights to boot!

I believe we only ended up having 11 or 12 rooms booked through the group booking, and a few that booked on their own.

Did you have any luck hearing back from Now Jade yet (I think that's where you were looking to book?). If you haven't, it's totally worth the long distance fees to phone them to get things sorted out!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
