Mexico or Dominican Republic?

Recommended Posts

I recently got engaged and I just started my search. So far we have decided that the 2 best places to have our wedding would be Mexico or Dominican Republic. How did you guys decide on the place? I am basing my decision on proximity and $$ plane tickets (from Charlotte NC) Its so hard because I know everyone wants the perfect wedding so I am torn on this decision. I am having a catholic wedding so i am finding Mexico to have the most chapels in resorts? Any suggestions?

We chose Mexico for a few reasons:

Cheaper plane tickets

My family had been to DR and Mexico and always enjoyed the food in Mexico more

His extended family loves Mexico

Lots of AI options

Lots of things to do offsite of the AI

Second largest barrier reef in the world

Riviera Maya is considered very safe

Mayan ruins (one of the seven wonders of the world)

In the end I think it all goes to personal preference. We were looking for lots of excursions and things to do outside of the resort while still being able to stay at the resort and have a good time if we wanted to. From what I read Mexico is great for this whereas the DR doesn't offer as much offsite but offers quite a bit (maybe even at a lesser price) at the resort.

Hope this helps!

Hi Carli - EDR does have a really nice chapel. the photo below shows a quick shot of the chapel. it's an incredible resort too. We were married there last year, and are going back in a few weeks to celebrate our anniversary.

Check out the links in my signature for more info on EDR. I'd be happy to answer any questions about the resort that I can!

We have set our date at El Dorado Royale 4/19/2014 hooray! I thought about the Moon Palace and they have some great incentives for larger parties but really didn't like their beach it's ugly and people said it smelled. Since I wanted a beach wedding this was really important. I think Gran Caribe was more expensive and closer to Cancun than we wanted. It looks pretty awesome though

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
