What to do after reception?

I don't think we're going to rent the dance floor either, since we're only going to be about 20-25 people. It does sort of seem like a waste. Plus, we're having our ceremony at 5:15, and I'm guessing we won't be arriving at the Seawatch until 6:30 or so. Since you have to wrap everything up by 10, it really seemed pointless for us to rent the dance floor. I'm hoping people won't be too disappointed. My parents love dancing, so they'll probably be a little glum about it. That said, we're thinking about either going down to the beach as our after reception thing, and maybe people can do a little dancing there. I wonder how far the evening event curfew enforcement goes in terms of that sort of thing...

An alternative we're considering is that one (if not both) of the sets of parents will probably be renting a condo for their stay, and maybe we could have everyone go back to a condo after the reception for a little house party kind of a thing. By then, I'm guessing we might be down to say 15 people, so I don't think it would qualify as a "wedding" at that point, which most of the condo renters don't seem to allow. I don't think we're inviting anyone too rowdy (with a couple of exceptions, who I'm thinking will be quieter in the smaller group), so I'm hoping it won't be a problem. I kind of like the idea of a little house party after the reception. It would really fit with the low key vibe we're trying to achieve.

I asked Susan at the Seawatch what other clients have done after their receptions, and she said that some of them go over to Mulligans on the Blue, which is on the golf course right next to the Seawatch, so that's an option too.

Oops, there I go with a novel again! It's so great having other brides to talk to about this stuff.

Is Mulligans on the Blue a bar? pub? That might be what we end up doing too.. or going down to the beach to party it up a bit more. We will also probably just have 20 -25 people so the dance floor will be a waste.. and my FI doesn't even like dancing period... heh!

Hi ladies! I am so happy to have found this site!

I am a BC girl myself- from Victoria. My fiance and I are getting married in Maui on Dec 30 and we are also having our reception at the Seawatch! I am so happy to have found such good reviews here:) We have been to Maui before, but never to this restaurant so I was going entirely by online pics and referrals as well.

Our coordinator is Makena Weddings, which was recommended to me by a friend here who used them. So far I have been really pleased with everything Laurie (the coordinator) has done for us.

As for the dance floor, we are getting it, even though we are also only having 19-20 guests. It is kind of expensive, but I also have a crowd of people who love dancing and it will really make the party for us. I really wanted us to have a "first dance" and to have one with my dad. We also have a strange mix of guests who are not necessarily going to want to sit around and chat (almost everyone is divorced from someone else there!) This is one night I will never get to relive, so I want it to be as perfect as possible. Everyone I've talked to is really excited to have an outdoor dance floor. But whatever you chose will be lovely. I've been to weddings without dancing and they are still wonderful. It just depends on what YOU want.

I look forward to hearing your stories more and sharing more info as we get closer!

We are also having our ceremony on the golf course grounds instead of a beach. It's only $400 I think, and the privacy is pretty important to me. That, and I went a little fancy on my dressblush2.gif

Where is everyone staying in Maui? We are booked at the Maui Banyan condos.

Welcome Pisces! I can't believe how many Canadian girls are having their receptions at the Seawatch. It's pretty crazy!

We're using A Dream Wedding: Maui Style for our wedding coordiantors. A friend of mine here had them plan her wedding, and was really happy with them. Aside from the reception at the Seawatch, we're having our ceremony at the Wailea Marriott, so I think we'll end up staying there for at least our wedding night, but we having booked our room yet. I don't think we'll stay there the whole time though, so will probably rent a condo or something.

Have you booked anything else? We're using Mike Sidney for photography and Hawaii Video Memories for videography.

We haven't booked much else yet- our coordinator has already recommended a photographer, who is the same one my friend used. I get to see her pictures next week! This is her site Maui Wedding Photography by Kinga - Maui Photographers, Maui Photography, Maui Weddings

We still have a while before we book anything else. I might look into Marriott for our wedding night. My brother will be staying with us in our condo, so we were thinking of jetting off to a honeymoon suite for the wedding night itself.

So far we have opted out of a videographer. It's not something I think we would ever watch, and the price I was quoted was $450... not sure if you have anything better, but that seems really pricey to me. I would rather put that money towards my dancefloor/dj costs. I have a very camera-happy family, so I'm sure someone will be video-taping anyhow!

Pisces, your photographer's sample photos on the website are gorgeous. Great choice!

As for the videographer, I think it totally depends on the person. Our videographers are pretty pricey (about $1000), but the thing we loved about them is that they edit the whole hour or 2 hours of tape down to a 5-10 minute montage/music video. We figured we'd never watch an hour-long video, but something say, 7 minutes long, would be really nice to have. A friend of mine had something similar done for her wedding, and she said they watch the montage all the time, but they've never watched the full-length video since the first time they got it!

Anyway, it definitely boils down to personal preference. It's a lot to spend if you don't think you'll watch it.

I just noticed that you're booked at the Maui Banyan condos - that's where we're staying too! We booked the studio condo for the 5 days we're on Maui before the wedding. The night before the wedding and the wedding night, we're staying at the Wailea Marriott, where we're having the ceremony.

that will be great Sherry! We're booked for the full two weeks we'll be there at the Banyan (Dec 20-Jan 3). We stayed there last time we went and really liked it. It feels a little more private than the bigger resorts to me. I really liked the BBQ-pool area.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
