We are not doing photos together before the ceremony. We were told by one photographer that the facial expressions are never the same since everyone is likely still nervous in anticipation of the ceremony.

Afterwards, the bride and groom are completely relaxed and it shows in the photos. After seeing a friends who did photos before, I realized the photographer was totally right.

I think seeing each other up close beforehand sounds kind of fun though!

FH has vetoed the idea of pics before the ceremony. He wants to see me for the first time when I walk toward him....and I figure I won't fight it, since I'm making most of the big decisions according to my own preferences. He hasn't disapproved of much of anything, so its no big deal for me to give him this. I think its sweet of him.

Has anyone else found the things that your fiance DID care about to be odd? I mean, the stuff that I went to him with before deciding..he was like "I don't care." But the things I had no idea he would give a darn about, he is putting his foot down on. Wierd.

And as a guest, I love that anticiaption of seeing the bride & groom nervous and so excited to see each other.
The three weddings we attend this summer- all had the bride and groom in full view of the guests taking pictures. They even went around and talked to guests prior to the wedding. I thought it was really anti-climatic when you first got a viewing of the bride. Normally, everyone waits for her to arrive and then gasps at how beautiful she looks and how great the dress is, etc.

After attending 3 weddings like that this summer, I was seriously wondering if the new "trend" is to mingle with guests pre-ceremony. I thought it was a real downer. Therefore, I will stay hidden away. FI and I will probably see each other before, but I don't want all the guests in on the action.

I agree. I want to see my FI, but not the guests. So i'm hoping we can find a place pretty near our room to take pictures without a lot of people around.

I will stay hidden away :) Actually, hopefully he'll sleep with the groomsmen the night before too. I'm just weird and traditional like that.

As as for FI wanting to be involved in things I never thought he would... um YEAH! Our Save the Dates were a huge thing with him. I had them all designed and ready to go and he basically changed them 100%! Dork.

I wanted to do pictures before the ceremony to get it out of the way, but FI wants to be surprised. I just hope we'll have enough time after the ceremony to get all our pics and family pics done before the cocktail hour. He also helped with our STDs mostly because he wanted to save money by doing them ourselves. I loved the way they turned out and liked them better than the ones I would have ordered so I'm glad he talked me into that. Everything else he is leaving up to me.

To get back to the question of pics before the ceremony, it seems that more people are doing bride and groom pics pre-ceremony. I don't have a problem with that, but I would not want any guests to see me before the ceremony.

I attended a wedding last spring where they had the cocktail hour pre-ceremony and the bride attended it in a different dress (she wore a black and white gown)... I was told it was a southern thing, but it seemed kinda strange to me that she was at her wedding in a different dress

As far as personal choice, we will be seeing each other before the ceremony. Being Jewish, it is pretty much a must because you have to first sign the "wedding contract" (Ketubah) before the rabbi will marry you. I wanted to hold off on pictures till after the wedding, but FI and I eventually agreed that if we are already going to see each other, we might as well take advantage of the time and do pictures (which would allow us to enjoy the cocktail hour with our guests). I have to admit though, getting around the resort to take the pictures should be interesting since we are planning to have over 100 guests... and I def don't want them ALL seeing me pre-cermeony!

YUP! We are taking pics before the ceremony because we don't want to miss the cocktail hour.

We initially wanted the "WOW" factor, but were convinced otherwise by our Photog. He told us about how he makes sure to set up something so he can capture us seeing each other for the first time that day and does it in a spot where no one else will be in "our moment." After that time, we will have pics with the wedding party (away from the crowd so no one will else will see us first), then the ceremony, then with family during the cocktail hour. We don't mind missing cocktail hour time since thats what we have the reception time for, and doing the wedding party and "just us" shots saves a lot of time beforehand. We wanted to maximize our 5 hours of time to get the shots we really want, and not a million shots of peoples backsides while they are dancing wasted on the dancefloor
