Went Dress shopping for the first time...not really into it!

Recommended Posts

Hi ladies! okay so for some reason I have been putting off going to look for dresses. Partly because I am just so busy w/ work and school and family issues that I don't have free time. The other part if because I just am not motivated. The thought of going does not interest me in the least?

So this weekend I was up visiting my mom and friends and I decided to stop in this boutique up there. First of all, they had some pretty ugly dresses and i can't make decisions to save my life.

So I found only 4 that I was willing to even try on and the whole time I just felt wierd like it just wasn't natural to me. Plus I felt fat and uncomfortable and just not feeling the whole thing.

Is this totally abnormal? Has anyone else gone through this? I never have been one to think about my wedding day or care about my dress and I knew that my dress wasn't a big deal to me, but I just really hate the idea of having to go, try them on, look through those crammed racks and try and tell myself that I like a certain dress when really i just feel like a fat blob!

HELP!!!!

Took me a while to find this thread

You are definitly not alone feeling this way. I bought an off the rack dress partially to avoid having to do the whole thing at a wedding gown shop. I didn't even like checking out veils at david's bridal. I love having my dress, but I did not enjoy shopping for it.

Aw, Michelle -- you have plenty of time! smile03.gif

But I would just try to have fun with it! When I tried on dresses that I WANTED to wear b/c I loved the style, they looked HORRIBLE on me and I was devastated. But I ended up trying on dresses that I didn't like (looks-wise) but when I tried them on, I was really surprised.

The sizing makes all of us brides feel like fat blobs I think b/c they are always so much bigger than what we actually wear. It SUCKS.

I know they say it all the time, but I really do think when you try the right one on, you'll know it!

Good Luck sista!

Have you looked at dresses online? If not, maybe you should try looking online first. Pick out a couple of dresses that you think you'd love to wear & then make an appt to try them on. It helps if you find one bridal shop that carries multiple designers. That way when you go to the shop you can try on more than 1 dress.

Also, if you have the time, wait, duh, you already said you don't have a lot of free timesmile105.gif...lol. Well definitely avoid going to any bridal shop on the weekend. It seems that they are much more crowded then. I went during the week & in the middle of the day & the place was empty. I didn't have to worry about any other people looking at me or what I had on so I was more comfortable.

Another lesson I learned, only go with 1 or 2 people max. The more people you take with you, the more opinions you get!

Maybe your motivation will come when you look online & see something that jumps off the page & has you thinking "I've got to have that dress".

But don't stress yourself out about it. Try to have fun with it as much as you can.

Sorry for going on and on but I hope that helps a bit.

I don't think you are abnormal! My BMs, FI's mom, and even my FI keep asking when I'll go and start looking...I have no desire yet! I'm kind of a procrastinator to begin with but everything else about the planning excites me just not dress shopping yet. I know I have plenty of time but still. Maybe it's the whole idea of being disappointed in not finding the perfect one right off the bat?

Don't worry about not finding the perfect one right off the bat! I wish I could tell you how many shops I went to, how many dresses I tried on, before I FINALLY found "the one". And its funny, because the day I went to order the one that I thought was the one, another dress caught my eye, I tried it on and that became "the one". So take your time & just relax. You'll know when you've found the right dress.

well, i never had fun dress shopping - but i'm not a big shopper in general. i went by myself, and just bought it like i'd buy a pair of jeans. i didn't do the whole gaggle of girls thing that most brides do. just wasn't me! hang in there - you'll find what you're looking for!

Morgan, thanks for the link to the other thread. I didn't even think to look first before I posted...I just wanted some quick feedback! I can definately see that I am not alone in this (thanks everyone!!) I think I am going to look online a little bit and in the magazines and then next time just go by myself and see what i think. I figure I will find one eventually. I am just so hard on myself and I'm so afraid too that fiance won't like it....

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
