November 2014 Bride

My sister in law got married at Akumal - they loved it. I wasn't able to go (too costly at the time), but they went back a year later just because they loved the resort so much and are going again!

I went to this resort about 5 years ago and stayed on the Tulum side, and it was definitely one of my favourite places. I found it a great location to go off resort too, to see some local thing and check out Playa Del Carmen. I highly recommend a day trip to Xel Ha if you can! I bought the all inclusive day pass - includes food and drinks.

I'm also doing a wedding in Nov 2014, I just don't know where or when yet. I'm mostly basing it on price quotes I'm getting back.

Goodluck!

travelluvr, you read my mind! We were just thinking about planning a group excursion to Xel Ha. I haven't been there before - we did Hidden Worlds instead - so glad to hear it's highly recommended. Hidden Worlds was great, but I would say it's not up to American "safety standards" if you're not much of an adventurous traveler. I don't want to put guests into a situation that they wouldn't be comfortable with.

Quick update on our planning - We booked a villa! I'm so excited. We've also received a bid from the reception location as well as a quote for flowers/arbor/chairs/etc. It's really starting to come together. I'm also designing our STDs and invites, which has surprisingly been a ton of fun.

Our wedding is November 7, 2014 - do you think September 2013 is too soon to send the STDs?

Research Xel-Ha...it's an expensive day! I think it was close to $100 years ago. Tip: They only allow 'environmentally water safe' sunscreens, so they don't put chemicals near/in the water. You can buy them in their lobby for like $20 a bottle, but you can get them here (Canada), I forget what it's actually called. They will check your bag and take it if it's not up to par. Look into that.

STD- hmmm..I was going to send mine in December...I think September might be a bit soon (you sound excited! lol).

I'll bet there are you tube videos of Xel Ha, so you know what you are getting into. I snorkelled for I bet 6 hours that day. It's ++$$ for scuba etc.

Haha, you're right, I am excited! :) I'm in the PhD program, so summers are pretty low-key. I have a lot of time on my hands to plan.

Thanks for the tip on sunscreen. Yal Ku, a beautiful snorkeling spot in Akumal, has the same policy, so it'll be a good tip for guests.

Keep us updated on our wedding location decision! :)

Hi Brides!!

I am just starting my planning and I am thinking of fall 2014 - likely November. I have no idea where to start!!

Because I have been reading the forums on this site I have been considering the Riu or Dreams chain of resorts but I am not entirely sure. I am also thinking Mexico or Punta Cana. I am looking for somewhere that will be affordable for a wedding but more importantly affordable for people actually attending the wedding. Any suggestions? I want a 4* or higher hotel with an all inclusive option that comes with some positive reviews for food, accommodations and beach. I really want everybody that comes to enjoy themselves since they will be paying to be there. It is also important that it is a family friendly resort as I have 2 little ones and some of the anticipated guests do too.

Any suggestions are really appreciated!! Happy wedding planning to all :)

Can't find an Oct. thread so I'm going to latch on to your Nov. one! LOL! We just received STD's in the mail today. They turned out really nice and I can't wait to mail them out in Oct.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
