Hey there... we will be getting married 3.29.14.  We also picked the Ultimate Package... and trying to figure out what to bring as opposed to what to let them take care of as extras.  I have read a lot about bringing our own chair wraps, fabric for the gazebo, and centerpieces... which seems to save people a good amount of money.... and you also get to see the colors firsthand.

As of right now we estimate there will be 135-150 people.

I think we are going to do the reception in the ballroom, just bc with all the dancing it gets pretty hot when you are outside. I have seen some pics of the ballroom all decorated and it looks really nice.  Just no clue what is actually included when they send you those photos.

Am thinking we are probably going to outsource the dj, but just keep the photographer that they have... unless anyone has read really bad reviews?  Another thing we are using is capsule.com, which if your guests take pictures using the app on their iphone or hashtag your code on Instagram, it will upload directly to your capsule site (and your wedding site too if you have one w/ theknot.com)

Overall this is probably going to end up costing way more than I originally thought... but still probably less than 1/4 of what it costs to have a wedding in New York these days... though you don't get the same in gifts, so who knows!

Either way, am looking fwd to it very much.  Have seen such great pictures, and our travel agent has been amazing to work with. We did our save the dates on magnet street which was very reasonable, and they will send you one to ensure you like it before you fill your larger order... should be arriving today!

I am trying to keep a running list of everything I have to think of, like extra flowers, favors, placecards, programs, welcome bags, extra decorations, etc... so if anyone has anything that I might not think to add, please let me know!  Is anyone having a welcome party for their guests?

Hi everyone. I just booked my date for 6/30/2014! I've been working with a travel agent for booking rooms and such but haven't done much other than putting our deposit down for the wedding as far as coordinating. My coordinator is Cecilia. . I am really excited about reading different tips and such on this board along the way! Congrats all

Hey everyone!  I am going to Cancun in December, my fiance and I are going to be staying at Dreams, and also doing a site visit for Dreams Riviera.  Has anyone else struggled between the two?  I've stayed at Dreams Cancun twice now, with this year being my third and the only reason I'm thinking of checking out the Riviera is because it seems newer, and there are two extra restaurants I believe... I am scared to make the wrong decision!!  I can't imagine anything better than Cancun though....

Hi Megan

We are getting married at Dreams on 6th of January 2014. We did a site visit in June when we got engaged, (Excellence Playa Mujeres).  Our wedding is very small only 7 of us in total.  We are getting married on North Beach and had planned the reception on the beach.  However I am worried that it might get too windy and cold in January.  So at the moment I am considering other venues for the reception.  My co-ord Ayahamint has suggested the wine cellar, which is nice however an extra 800 dollars, or the Terrace at Himitsu, again they want an extra 1000 dollars just to make it private.  I didnt realise that you could make exchanges on parts of the package you do not require. This is really good information thank you.  As there are only 7 of us and we have chosen the Dreams of Love package which is for 20, I will be asking to make some exchanges.

We are having a legal ceremony and want to do the sand ceremony as part of this, we both have children and they will also be taking part in the sand ceremony and the wedding.  My son is giving me away, my daughter is my bridesmaid and step sons are both best men for my H2B.

Would like to hear from anyone who had a legal ceremony to ask if they met the judge prior to the wedding and how they included the sand ceremony.

Lou

Hi ladies! Thank you for creating this thread for the 2014 brides! I am in the process of booking our Dreams wedding. I am actually waiting on confirmation of availability of dates. We do not plan on doing a site visit. Has anyone been to either Dreams Cancun or Dreams Riviera Cancun? I have read excellent things on both of them. I haven't been to Cancun so all this is new to me.

I look forward to getting to know you all and sharing tips. I'm nervous and really have no idea where to start!!

We're swapping the cocktails for the 10 extra people for the reception and I'm bringing a photographer friend so they are giving me an upgraded cake I think instead of that. It's really so beautiful I'm not really going to worry about many decorations and going to focus on the guest bag and other stuff to thanks our guests for traveling all that way to share in our day. Can't wait!!!

Hi Sarah!

Could you tell me which other resorts you went to see? And why you chose Dreams?

Thanks!

Mrsoats, Dreams was the only resort in Cancun we looked at. The others were Riviera Maya or Playa del Carmen. We really wanted to get married in Playa but the resorts we checked out just didn't fit the bill for one reason or another and we were running out of time to decide and Dreams was our "safety" if you will. We knew we couldn't go wrong from all the recommendations we got and we were right. We looked at Occidental Xcaret, Playacar Reef, Jade Now. We also visited the Riu next to The Reef but the staff was not welcoming among a few other turnoff that sent us walking. The big down falls for the Occidental and Reef were the food... It was pretty blah. Our guests could have dealt with it for 3 days but anyone staying longer not so much. The Reef didn't have a private area to get married besides on the beach and I didn't want that. The Occidental didn't have a "real" beach and both were just far enough away from the airport to be a negative for our guests. They are already spending $$$$ getting there we felt like if we could spare them a $100 fare to get to the hotel that was a plus. Oh and their vacation club people are obnoxious! MAJOR NEGATIVE! Jade Now was beautiful and I would go back. The place I wanted to get married there though was already booked on the day we needed. And the beach there just isn't as beautiful as Playacar or Cancun. So we saw all these other places and then went to our "safety." We were blown away by the difference. The food was GOOD! The room actually had little shampoo and stuff you usually get (little thing I know), you could avoid the vacation club folks no problem, it was big enough without feeling too big but didn't feel crowded, has 2 real beaches and a beautiful area to get married. I was hooked! The difference in price between Dreams and the other places was about $20-30/day. That was why we didn't just go there to start but after eating the food - not having to eat buffet all the time too!- we decided hands down it was worth the extra!! You have to shop around for the best deal though but you can get it well under $200/pppn! Hope all that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi Ladies,

So glad I found this thread and looking forwards to exchanging info/ deas etc with you all.

I'm getting married at Dreams Cancun in April 2014 and was feeling a little overwhelmed until i found this site!

We wont be doing a site visit beforehand as we are from the UK, London and just wont have the time or funds( lol) to do one. But from what I've read so far we are all in good hands.

All the best

xx

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
