How are you creating excitement with your save the dates and invitations?

Recommended Posts

I am *this* close to picking my final wedding venue in Riviera Maya (yay!) and I really want to create a sense of excitement when my guests receive their invitations.  Many of them don't even know that I'm engaged (tee hee!) so I know that my STD will definitely create a little excitement anyway.  I really want to start letting them know that they are in for a wonderful experience and that their presence is greatly appreciated.  I would love any ideas that BDW brides and grooms have regarding creating some excitement with my STDs!

Some ideas I have are:

1) Writing our name in the sand (or doing this on the computer) with the date and location. Send this as either a card or a postcard.

2) Sending a luggage tag with #1 or a Mexican-themed design/background

3) Including an RSVP card with options to pick their favorite song that we'll play during the weekend.

Here's what I did

For the save the dates, i made boarding pass invitations and created magnets and included them in them.

The invitations: Pocket fold invitations with a "passport" information book. But I didn't stop there! I decided to make a dvd of the resort videos I found on youtube and added my own music in the background that really captures DR. I haven't sent them out yet, but I'm sure that will get them excited!

@MissJali I love that DVD idea!

I did a scratch off card for save the dates that revealed the location. This was a fun way to tell people who didn't already know where we were planning to get married and a lot commented that they got super excited when they scratched it and saw where we were having the wedding. http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/81056/semi-diy-scratch-off-std-tutorial

For invitations I did passports, but I wasn't crafty enough to make me own so I bought them. :) http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/79993/post-pictures-of-your-invitations/50#post_1824752

Our save the dates was my website launch. I worked hard on the website to make it as visually exciting as possible. Lots of pictures of the resort and surrounding areas. If you're into getting creative with websites, I'd recommend http://www.wix.com As soon as I get my delivery of ID badge holders, I'll be sending out luggage tags with an itinerary of the week in Mexico. I've had the itinerary all done up and printed and can't wait to send them! :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
