Hello Jade,

Congrats on your up coming wedding!

If you get married in Mexico, our suggestion will be to hold a ceremony 1:30 mis. before sunset.  At that time, the sun is not strong, the ocean breeze is nice and if your ceremony is facing the ocean it will be not hot.

You have to consider also, if you are having a second ceremony or of your ceremony is at the same resort or perhaps in a Chapel in town, then times will have to change.

Also, if you want to have your photo session prior the ceremony or after ceremony, you always have to talk with your photographer before defining the ceremony time.

Just remember that 2 hours before sunset, sun still very strong and your guests might not want to be on the sun if there is no tent.

Do not forget to consider some bug spray against mosquitos if you are near the mangrooves or during mosquito season (July to September)

On September 2014 sunset is around 7 pm. you can check it out here:

Happy planning!

Hey Jade,

Once you've settled on a photographer, they will be able to help you choose the best time for your ceremony taking into consideration when you want to take your newlywed shots AND what kind of lighting you want for those.  You can check out out CLIMATE PAGE to get a little more information on sunset times, and things to consider!

Happy Planning!

Another good idea my bridesmaid told me to do is have the photographer take the all groomsmen and groom wedding photos while the girls are getting ready. And take the all girls photos before the ceremony. So after the ceremony, you only have the group photos and the couple photos to do. So not everyone is waiting forever for the party to take photos.

Good advice everyone :) We also recommend this timing to our wedding couples, as seen on our Moments That Matter FAQ page link here.........and copied below.

What time should I have my ceremony in order to allow enough time for pictures before the sunsets?

The most ideal time is to have your ceremony is 2 hrs before the sun sets. Here in the Mayan Riviera, once the sun starts to set, it happens very quickly! Less than 20 minutes, so we need to work fast during this time.

If your ceremony time does not leave enough time for photos, you do have a few options.

1. Change the time of the ceremony

2. Do the newlywed photos before the ceremony

3. We will use as much light as we can for the newlywed photos, then use creative lighting for the rest of your couples images.

This is not set in stone… just our suggestion to you.

Wishing everyone happy research + planning, and that your Wonderful Weddings unfold just the way you envision - Congrats ALL!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
