Newbie! Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas 2014!!

May2014Cabo

Recommended Posts

Hi!  So, we finally picked our resort, now...to plan!  I've never been to Cabo San Lucas but my fiance has.  Would probably need some advice on photographers and someone for hair and makeup.  Would anyone know how the onsite photographer and hair/make up artist are and if there is a website to view their work?  Any recommendations who to ask for outside of the resort?? What about the restaurants at the resort?  I've seen some pictures of what looks like a restaurant with a terrace, any idea what one that is?  We won't have a huge number of people attending.  So many questions!!! Thank you to all in advance!! Happy planning everyone :)

Congrats on picking a resort, thats half of the battle!! I was just married at the Palace. I used Suzanne Morel for hair and makeup, she is a 5 minute cab right from the resort and we brought our photographer with us. If you have any questions PM me, I know it can be confusing trying to pick a reception location not knowing what everything looks like. Happy planning!

Hello everyone!

I am currently researching resorts for a July 2014 Cabo Wedding! I am completely clueless so I look forward to reading everyones opinions!! Right now my #1 choice is Riu Palace... One question I have is in regards to guest travel booking. I normally use websites like bookit.com or Cheapcarribean to book my trips (flight and hotel together) as I find good deals, but do my guest have to book rooms through the hotel?? Does the hotel give group rates and room blocks? Or do they book their own travel packages??

I also will be looking through these forums for reception/wedding info.

Thanks for any help!

Alyssa

Hi Alyssa,

I've been working with Wright Travel to set up our wedding plans. We are still trying to decide between Riu Palace and Dreams, but I've gotten a ton of information from the resorts and from the TA. I'm not sure if the TA charges for room booking, but I know they will book your flights at no charge. It's nice to let someone else handle those things while you're stressing over every other little detail. lol. Seriously, though, the things that are making me sway toward Dreams are the packages they're willing to give. Riu does require a minimum of 80% of your guests to stay there and there's a much lower per person charge when you go over their 40 person package. They're located 2 minutes drive from downtown Cabo San Lucas, where Dreams is about 20 minutes. Riu also seems like a better price point for our single or childless guests, but we have 3 children and many of our guests do as well. Dreams is offering their "kids stay free" deal during November of next year. I literally sat and did all the calculations based on both resorts quotes and package incentives. They come very close, leaving the difference of around $200 per room for the same number and category of rooms (Riu offers a level lower, though). Dreams then offers adults a $100 resort credit, so I kind of feel like it comes out about even. The resorts are crazy busy with weddings right now, though, so using a TA is probably the best way to get answers. Check web pages, too, as they offer a lot of info online and these forums are amazing at giving details. You could also search trip advisor for some info on other resorts in the area. Hope this helps a little. If I can help more, feel free to respond or PM me.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
