I just came back from the GBP and loved it, so we decided to get married there next May 2014, however I have been looking at some of these prices and I am blown away by all these extra cost. I assumed we would have to pay about $2,000 for the ceremony and dinner but I am having roughly 150 people and if we have to pay $35 a head to privatize a restaurant and on top of that if we have our dance by the pool it cost $17 a head an hour for booze?! Is this not an all inclusive resort? How can they charge so much extra? I really hope I am misunderstanding something here because by the sounds of things it is going to cost me and arm and a leg! If you don't mind me asking, those of you who got married here that had larger groups what was your grand total for everything you needed for your wedding at this resort.

Thanks

150 people?! Wow. That's why its so much extra! The packages are for 20/30 people. You have to understand the restaurants are open to the paying holiday people at the same time as your wedding reception. You would be taking over the entire place! The extra staff involved etc for a wedding reception of that size would obviously incur extra cost. Maybe you should trim it down a bit.. By 120 people!

Ya, i agree with micflair, its definitely your guest list that's jacking up the cost!

We are getting married at this resort in January 2014 and are budgeting for Max $2000 for the wedding package. The only extras we plan on spending is aprox $500ish for the poolside reception and another $500 each for flowers and hair/makeup for us girls.

We are having our meal in an a la carte to save on the meal cost. That being said, our guest count is aprox 30 ppl. If you have as many ppl as you do, from my understanding, you have to do the dinner private poolside since the restaurants can't fit that many ppl.

Also keep in mind, while it is an AI and I agree the thought of paying for liquor kills me too, the charge is also for the set up of tables and you get your own personal bartender.

Thanks ladies,

Yes I know it is a lot of people but we both come from very large families and are both in professional colleges with tons of classmates to invite as well, so cutting our numbers right now isn't really an option - but who knows it is still a year away, maybe some people will back out. Another question:

Has anyone had their reception dinner at Tequila or La Gran Tortuga in Tulum? Those are the options that will fit 150 for dinner, but I did not have a chance to try them out while I was there- and I am just curious which atmosphere is more fun, and which meal was better for a wedding?

And when did you do your speeches, we are given 2 hours for dinner and 3 hours for our private pool side reception, and I am just curious which venue would be better.

Thanks,

Jamie

Hello Jamie,

You can try the Grand Palladium, Grand Sirenis I know those hotels can offer great prices for large weddings.

Happy Planning!

@Jamie R Smith may I ask how many people you invited? My FI and I were planning to invite everyone (~225 with the hopes of getting 100 to attend) since we thought a. everyone won't come since it's destination and b. even if they do it's AI, so they'll be paying for themselves. Now that  we are getting the prices we'll incur for having over 40 people we realized we should cut down our invite list :(

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
