Mother Daughter Dance?

Recommended Posts

Anyone doing a mother daughter dance? My parents are separated and my mom would really like to have a dance with me too. What songs did you use? Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks ladies!

WOW! I am so glad this was brought up! I've been thinking of a Mother-Daughter dance, as my mother has been my only parental figure for most of my life.

And Every time I hear "Mama's song" by Carrie Underwood, I think of how perfect it would be.

My younger brother is walking me down the aisle.... as I asked him to when I was like 12y/o.

So I thought a mother/daughter dance would be nice for my mom. (My step dad and I are "close"... but not huggy-close... or "dance with each other with everyone watching" close....)

Anyways - I wasn't sure if a Mother/Daughter dance would be weird....? You never hear of it.... and you don't often hear of two women dancing together (I mean, without getting into a gay-marriage debate or anthing... Love is Love... But I mean... you know what I mean....)

I agree! I think its a cute Idea! And especially if your mom was your only parental  or genrally the only one that was a parent figure to you then I think its great!

Me and my dad didnt have the "best" relationship growing up. But we are close now. ( Now that I have moved out and we arent around eachother and fighting all the time lol) So I want to have "one " thing with him being the dance, And I figured Id have both my parents walk me down the aisle.

I asked my mom if its something she would want to do. Because I didnt know if she just wanted to watch me come down the aisle with my dad or if she wanted to be a part of it. At first she said to ask my dad, But then she thought about it more and decided she wished she had her mom and dad both walk her down the aisle at her wedding. So I will have them both walk me. Thankfully my parents still get along even though they are seperated. They still love eachother and im sure would still be together if they could get a long for more then short periods of time. But it is what it is. My dads "friend" or "gf" is coming to the wedding. And she is a great lady. I really like her, i feel bad though Because my mom is coming alone. I just hope drama doesnt unleash its self lol

When I heard Carrie Underwood's "Mama's song" it made me want to cry. It would be the perfect song. I also thought about singing it, but my emotions might get the best of me on that day. I love how the lyrics are bang on! I'm just trying to figure out when we would have this dance... Our first dance, then The father/dauther dance, then the Mother/son dance and the Mother/daughter dance seems like a lot of dances that people are just looking onwards and I wouldn't want them to get bored.

Strangely enough, its my mom and I that usually butt heads and in my dad's eyes, I'm his perfect angel. My parents do not get along very well, and I fear there will be an outburst at the wedding. But my FI and I have already had a talk with each of them separately to ensure that they would be adults and not cause a scene and realize that they are there to celebrate our love and union. My mom insists that she walk down the aisle with my dad and I, but this is something I would like to keep traditional. It is frustrating to always have to say no to her. But that is why I'm now considering a dance with her instead. Hopefully she feels that she is included and I'm not leaving her out.

Hey! The song really is perfect.  I've been thinking maybe doing a split... Like 1/2way through the father daughter dance have the song change and do 1/2 the "Mama's Song".... I feel like my step-dad would not take offense to this at all. I have no idea what song to dance with him with though... he only "came around" when I was 18y/o... so I was never "Daddy's little girl"... and I feel like so many songs are about "growing up" and "in daddy's eyes" etc.... not really appropriate...

Also, I don't know the first thing about "mixing" music... so I'm not sure how this will all work out.

I'm so glad I saw this post! I love the idea of a mother/daughter dance. My mother is a single parent and I think it would really mean the world to her to surprise her with a special dance. I agree with MelB though when I wonder, do you think people would think it would be weird? Two women slow dancing together? Also not trying to offend same sex partners, whom I support 100%!

What a great idea! I have never seen my dad dance in my LIFE, so I can only imagine how a daddy-daughter dance is going to go! LOL. My mom, on the other hand, is a musician and loves to get down (according to my aunt, she burned up the dance floor at the last wedding they went to). My parents are divorced, and I think this would be a great way to honor her! No serious dancing for us, maybe some James Brown! See this link below for a more lighthearted take:

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
