Has anyone gotten married in Riviera Maya, Mexico in October?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I'm new to the board and I'm hoping to get some advice on the best time to get married in Riviera Maya, Mexico. Currently, my fiancee and I have planned to get married in October 2014 but we're thinking of having a Spring time wedding. We would have wait until April or May of 2014 because he is deploying to Afganistan for 9 months starting this July. We both really love the Spring time and we've had many milestones in our relationship during this season but realistically, getting married when he returns in May 2014 will be difficult. I've read reviews and other people's experiences during the April-June time period and the weather seems beautiful and near perfect -- but I was wondering if anyone has had their weddding there in October? What are your experiences? Too rainy? Too much of a headache worrying about hurricanes/tropical storms? I really want to see if the May-June period is worth waiting 2 years to marry this amazing man. cheesy.gif I appreciate any and all advice and stories. Thanks so much in advance!

Hello Carebear82,

When I first got engaged we have decided october 2013, the same month as you. Then after a month we decided to change.

My FI and I were once watching the TV and there was a programme about foreign people living in Riviera Maya. All they were saying that the end of September and the whole October is a nightmare because it is the worst period for hurricanes and that rains a lot.

THen we got scared and started to look a lot of information about good months for marrying. I also took the advantage to ask the locals. I asked to photographers (in that period I had not decided yet which would be my photographer so I asked for having more opinions), and other outside vendors.

I was able as well to read a lot of opinions and reviews and I was also able to contact a former Mexican bride.

EVERYBODY told me the same. I am not saying there are no brides getting married in October but I am not making a DW in the Caribbean to have rain everyday...

Then I decided to ask directly to my wedding coordinator. She told me that if we had the possibility to change the month, then it would be better. So we finally decided to go for the beggining of August. One thing is that it is going to rain 15 or 30 minutes like is typical at the Caribbean with that heavy rains, but not raining the most of the time.

For another hand, I have a friend of mine that got married in November here in Spain and he went to Riviera Maya for the honeymoon. He told me that the degrees were 20ºC but that they were able to swim only in the sea because the water from the pools were really cold.

If your FI is returning March-April 2014, why you do not go for June, July or August? At the end we, the women, are the ones that organizes everything. You could start organize with your planner and comment everything with him at his return msnwink.gif

Hope to be helpful!!

Hey Carebear!

Yes, the end of the hurricane season is the most active for our area, so definitely at your risk.  Our rain is mostly tropical showers which usually means heavy showers that last less than 15 minutes.  If you want an over-all view of our weather here, check out our website: CLIMATE Riviera Maya.

From my experience here, May and June are the hottest months!

Happy Planning!

You are welcome!! You will tell me what you have decided to do at the end!

Good planning!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
