Hey Rcp,

I had similar concerns...I selected a few days over the summer of 2012 to do full face make-up test to prepare for my bridal look.  I choose days were the high was 90+  and went to Sephora 3 times and MAC once.  Make-up was applied between 10:00 and noon and wore until I went to bed.  The task: I wanted to be tear-proof, transfer-proof, sweat proof, able to endure humidity, photo ready, 12+ hours of wear and something mattifying. I went to the gym on these days, watched a movie that I knew would make me cry, and checked transferability by blotting my face with a white shirt throughout the day.  The following is what I finally went with.  If you want to know the complete list of items I experimented with let me know and I can provide those too.

Primer – Tarte Poreless 12 Hour Perfecting Primer, creates a great canvas, really minimizes pores and itâ€s waterproof.  I also like Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer

Foundation – Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation (great color selection for darker skin tones)

Concealer – Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Concealer

Blush – Smashbox Factory Airblush Whipped Cheek in Berry Bliss with light sweep of MAC Mineralize Blush in Lovejoy on top (I have a few more recommendations if needed but this is my wedding look)

Bronzer – Nars Casino (subtle glow-my day time option) or Laura Mercier Golden Mosaic Shimmer Color Bloc (more light reflecting, great for evenings)

Contour – Really hard to find a contour for dark skin so I use a matte eye shadow from MAC 2 shades darker than my complexion

Highlighter – Concealer 1 shade lighter than skin tone and mixed with Nars Illuminator in Orgasm

EyeLiner – Stilla Stay All Day Waterproof Liner (liquid liner)

Eyeshadow Primer – Urban Decay Original Primer Potion (love this stuff, itâ€s been my go to for 3 years now)

Eyeshadow – MAC has the best pigments in my opinion.  If you want to know the specifics for my eye look let me know.

Mascara – Lancome Power Mascara Lon Wearing Formula (what I would use if I wasnâ€t getting lash extensions)

Brows – Laura Mercier Eyebrow Pencil

Lipliner - Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip Waterproof Lipliner Pencil

Finishing - Make Up For Ever HD MicroFinish Powder

Optional investment - Original Beauty Blender Sponge, this truly gives a flawless application.  If it werenâ€t for my wedding I probably would have never purchased this thing, but I was aiming for perfection.

I canâ€t believe Iâ€m putting all this stuff on my face,  but I love my bridal look and how it photographs.  Each item above really make for a complete and polished look.

OMG!!!!! Thank You!!!! As a dark skin bride, it is so hard finding products that don't transfer. I wish I could hug you right now, lol.

I forgot to mention 1 item - Boscia Blotting Papers.  It didn't matter what foundation/application I used, there was no getting around periodic blotting to control sheen/oil, but I was able to go the longest with MUFE HD (typically 5-6 hours without blotting). I do like the Boscia blotting papers b/c they were quick, easy and left my makeup in tact.

Thank you for taking the time to post all of this!  Your dress looks absolutely perfect on you and I love the hair and makeup looks that you're going with.  I also have always hated the way my makeup comes out when someone else does it, so your detailed makeup post will be so helpful for me this summer when I start trying out products to use on myself.

Your day is getting sooooo close!!!! Super excited for you! Cant wait to hear all about it on your return :)

Best wishes xo

Great planning thread Tova! 10 more days!! Are you planning on bringing all of your make up to the spa and having them use your products on you, or are you planning on doing it yourself?

Thanks Shannon, I still have more to post but can't seem to find the time (DIY projects, mock-ups and misc wedding stuff).

I consider having the resort apply my makeup using my products, but Iâ€ve been practicing my bridal look for the past year and have better confidence in my own application.  Iâ€m using 5 different shadows, and 3 different eyeliners to achieve my eye look (extreme, I know); I can only imagine the different ways this can be layered and applied and all the sudden turn into something very different than what I want. My Face is safer in my own hands and I actually think it will be less stressful for me.

Thanks Beth.  I love my dress even though I feel it looks different on me now that I've lost weight as compared to that photo which was when I first found it during a bridal appointmet.  I wish I could find more excuses to wear it after the wedding though.

January will be here beofre you know it!

Hey Kisha,

Don't worry, it all falls into place.  Experimenting with my bridal look was my first full on introduction to makeup. I never owned foundation prior to this, I was just a mascara and lip gloss girl.  I use to have a friend apply my makeup or I had an appt with MAC for special events. It's all about layering and blending.  Start with the basics, perfect those, and build from there. Good Luck!

PHOTOGRAPHY

I fell in love with Elizabeth Medina and Del Sol Photography but quickly learned that they were both out of the budget (double my budget).  Another mourning moment, but I was quickly on the hunt to find a photographer that would preserve the memories of our special day and capture the essence of we are and the love that we have for each other.  We put our trust in the hands of Sascha Gluck and weâ€re confident that we made the right decision.  We will aslo do a sunrise TTD shoot which Iâ€m super excited and nervous for.

DIY PROJECTS

As with many BDW brides I opted to DIY as a means to lower cost and make our wedding a bit more unique and personalized.  Since I am posting my planning thread so late, there are a few items that I have already packed so pics will be provided upon my return.

INVITES

I wrote a pretty extensive thread on this so I will provide the link instead of rehashing the details.  But if you have any questions that arenâ€t answered, just ask!

PRE-TRAVEL PACKETS

We decided early on that we didnâ€t want to give out guests OOT bags, but would provide a few goodies with our pre-travel letter.  The results:

  • Thank you letter
  • ‘Pack This†checklist created in Excel
  • Double sided resort booklet (resort map, restaurants, bars, summary of accommodations, local excursions etc);
  • Personalized Tumbler (I used the ½ sheet weatherproof mailing lables by avery and cut them out);
  • Mexico misc. info sheet (weather, currency, CUN airport, Montezuma Revenge etc)
  • Mexico Themed Luggage Tags (Leather Tags for BM/MOH, and Parents)
  • 4GB digi cam memory card (we loaded up on these during a Black Friday Sale!)
  • Schedule of events during wedding week

I started to assemble these and totally forgot to include the last two items, but thankfully Justin brought it to my attention before we distributed them.  I hand delivered all of them to our Guest in OR and WA and did group shipments to our families in MT, VA and PA and our parents broke out the packages and did the distribution to those with their states to help save on S&H costs.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
