a reception with NO DANCING????

Recommended Posts

I'm not having dancing either, although I am bringing my iPod to set up. Instead, I've asked the wedding coordinator at Dreams to set up karaoke for us (since I know they already have the tools) and my FH and I are going to sing the first song.

Cheesy, I know, but we both really have two left feet.

Maybe - to make your husband feel better and to make dinner more relaxed for you both - how about telling him that you will kick back at dinner and not worry about walking around and thanking everyone until AFTER. That way, you can put on some fun dancing/festive music when you're done with dinner (I never realized how much my whole group of friends and family love 70s music!) and the two of you can walk around and spend time with everyone "mingling" while those who want to dance, do.

You guys have read my mind... there are only going to be 12 of us including us... and I thought it would be weird for us to be busting a move with his parents and not many more people.

And even though we aren't big dancers, we love music, as I always say, "I live my life to a soundtrack" so... I think I am going to have the music play, and have the main first dance and a mother/son, brother/sister dance (my brother is walking me down the aisle) and leave it at that.

If people want to dance to the other songs, so be it. If not, it will be like a normal party where music is playing and everyone mingles. But I don't think we can cut the whole thing out, especially a destination wedding where people don't just go home.

Let me know what you guys decide... I am still not 100% convinced.

Mishi, I'm stuck on this as well. Right now we have 10 people booked (including us) and we're pretty sure we'll have about 10 more, give or take a few. I think its going to be weird for us to have dancing with so few people. We're thinking we'll just setup our IPOD instead of getting a DJ but I'm still not sure how to handle this. If we have 20-25 ppl, then it doesn't seem as bad, as it will if we only have 15 people. I know sounds silly.

I have been on the fence about this as well. I am a professional dancer and only anticipated our immediate family coming....now I have some dance buddies coming and so I think after dinner we will go to the disco (RIU Cancun) for some dancing...but not a private dance reception...I figure those who want to go out, will, and those who will call it a night after dinner will not. Is that cheap of me? The disco is located onsite of the hotel and everyone is staying there anyhow....Do you think I need a seperate place for dancing instead? Ok...now you got me thinking....hummmm...

Who says you need a crowd to dance? In our house we dance all the time, a good song comes on we are all up and dancing, friends come over, same thing. The only time the kids run from embarrassment and leave me dancing alone is in Old Navy, alone and dancing in the isles (have you heard the songtracks at Old Navy, they rock). I say dance away, after all your on vacation. The people who don't want to dance can be entertained by the crazy people who do.(lol)

I am bring this old thread back to life ha ha. I am also not going to have dancing. We are getting married in a church - there will be a pianist there. After the ceremony we are having a trio for the cocktail hour - then we are having a dinner in a beach cabana..I plan on bringing an ipod and speakers and just having music in the background. We will dance our father/daughter, mother/son, and bride/groom - if people feel like dance go crazy - if not that is fine too...we are only have 15 people give or take. What are other doing for small weddings?

Although we are not having a "small" wedding, we too will be doing the informal dancing. We recently went to a wedding where dancing was not the focus of the nights entertainment, instead it was standing around and chatting. What a great vibe and a nice way to meet new people that have all come together for the same reason (the alcohol...hehe - kidding).

I would figure that if your guests want to do some dancing then they will and there is probably a disco to head to afterwards. We are planning on a sort of mellow play list to have in the background as well. What I love about the dancing part of the wedding is the slow dancing, it is so romantic and not something you get to do often (or at least I don't). I guess the type of music will depend on the vibe you are trying to create for your guests. Just some food for thought.

Loved the fact you brought this thread back to life bearbunny.

Well we have a group of 39 ppl. But we still aren't dancing. My FI has no relationship with his family so it would be uncomfy doing the father daughter dance and then he has no one to dance with. Our wedding is at 11am and then we have the reception scheduled for 12:30 followed by a 2-3 hr island tour. So I'm sure our guests won't mind not dancing at a lunch reception. Since we are on a cruise we all plan to go to the club that night to party. So we get the dancing in, just not at the 1pm reception....

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
