Been engaged a long time -- how to share the news that the wedding is finally happening?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

We've been engaged for 2+ years, but planning has been difficult. Between moves and jobs and just life happening, the wedding was on the back burner for a long time. Now that we're actually starting to make plan, set dates, does anyone have any tips on how to share this with family? Specifically, a lot of the family who doesn't live near by has long since assumed that either a) we called it off and were too ashamed to tell anyone or B) we eloped and were too ashamed to tell anyone. oops.gif

I wanted to tell everyone that it's happening in a fun and exciting way. I thought of sending out a newsletter-style STD, where we not only shared the details of the wedding, but also some more backstory about what's been going on and why it hasn't happened yet.

Did anyone do anything similar like that? Is it inappropriate to make a STD into a newsletter?

Any tips? :)

I don't know if I have heard of a newsletter STD. If you have some e-pics along with what you described, I think it could be cool.

On the forum, you can also find passport STDs. Since I know that you are going on a cruise, I think that could set the scene! Examples for pages could include your dating story, your engagement story, e-pics, join us aboard the high seas (or something like that), whatever other info you would like them to know.

I feel like I have seen a newsletter on here from another bride who is in a similar position. They were together for many, many years, were engaged but the wedding just wasn't a priority to them. Now, they are getting married, so they did a newsletter to their family and friends to let them know it was happening!

I thought it was one bride, but I'm not able to find the post where I had seen it.... but it has been done! I don't know if she used it for a STD, but it did go out to guests as a fun way to let them know what was going on!

If I find it, I will send you the link :)

I hope you don't mind me sharing it! I just remembered how awesome it was.... and when she was asking about a newsletter type announcement, I couldn't for the life of me remember where I had seen it!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
