Beach brides...anyone try wearing heels?

I'm pretty short (5'1") and have always been a heels girl.  Plus FH is also almost a foot taller than me.  I rarely wear flip flops on a normal day, and don't really care for the look with my gown.  It's odd that so many people say to wear whatever dress you fall in love with, but then pair it with casual flip flops.  And all the wedges I've seen just look clunky.  Our ceremony will be on the beach in Hawaii, followed by dinner at one of the resort's restaurants.  I figured that I would still have to walk to and from the beach location and that would be on pavement.  Do you think I can still wear heels? I found these Badgley Mischka Randall heels that match my dress perfectly!  But they're 4 inches!!! (yikes)  Will it look completely stupid if I walk to the ceremony location and take off my heels just before I hit the sand?

As long as you're not at the end of the aisle kicking off your shoes, then I think that you could take them off and then put them on after the ceremony is over. If you try to walk in your heels through the sand, that might be the embarrassing part. It's kind of disappointing because I would like to wear my heels too. But, I don't want to be hobbling through the sand.

I'm wearing barefoot sandals for the ceremony and then changing into my heels after the ceremony (they are over 3"). I don;t think i would look stupid at all if you kicked them off right before you hit the sand. But if you are worried about it, maybe there is a spot you could remove them before you hit the beach where no one will see you?

Personally, I'm skeptical about wearing heels and then kicking them off on the beach -- depending on how long your dress is, it means either your dress will be too short while you're wearing the shoes, or it will be too long once you're on the sand. It's your wedding, though So if you want heels, do it!

That's what I was thinking when I was writing my response...but, I forgot to say it!

I'm about 5'3" and my husband is 6'2" so not having some height to my shoes was NOT an option. We got married on the beach so I found wedges that were about the same size as my nice wedding heels. I wore the wedges in the sand and then switched into the reception shoes, so I did not have any issues with the hem length. I found some really pretty cork wedges with white straps and they worked out really well! If i were you, Id be afraid to get my Badgley Mishkas anywhere near the sand, especially if they are satin, the sand will tear them up.

What was your experience like wearing wedges in the sand? I am in the same boat as far as height different with my fiance and I am thinking about buying 5" heels with a 2" platform to ease the ankle strain. Did you have any issues or was it not a big deal?

I am getting married on the beach but reception is on normal ground outside.... I ordred shoes from davids bridal and I am having them died a periwinkle blue!  Didn't want to spend a fortune on shoes because it is a destination wedding!  I am going to not worry about taking them off for the sand..... I may even do a wedge for reception....since my feet hurt in heels....we will see!  I don't think flops are stupid... especially since u can't really see them

The wedges I had were about 5 inches with an inch platform and an ankle strap. It was obvisouly more difficult to walk around in the sand, but I tested them out the day before at the rehearsal. They werent impossible, but you do have to focus on not falling, especially if the wind is blowing your dress in between your legs and/or your dress is sticking to your legs because your so hot! I wont lie, I almost ate it once, but I latched on to  my dad and im not sure anyone noticed. Just keep smiling! LOL

 

That being said, I would still 100% wear wedges again because of the hem and height issues.
