A little thing I like to call "Operation Wedding Dress" (aka, my dress is too small... but it won't be soon!)

Recommended Posts

My dress is going to be made of 2 ply toilet paper or decorative duct tape....or both. They are cheaper than fabric...and very unique! I have to cut costs somewhere!!!! No, I'm just kidding!!!!!!! rofl.gif  LOL! I can only imagine what you were thinking!  confused.gif  LOL! That doesn't even sound sane!  stupid.gif   Actually, I need to figure out how to describe what I want. At this point, at least you know that it will be better than my original description! ha.  I want it to be more of a special occasion dress. I want something white, long skirt, strapless in a flowy material (silk/chiffon, possibly). I basically think I want a beach chic (think that's how you might describe it) sundress. I love the bodice on yours, Jenny. So maybe something with that would be nice! I just don't want anything heavy! I'm not trying to sweat 5 lbs off just wearing the dress. That's no fun!  lol, you're funny, Jenny! CAKnight does seem kind of impersonal...My name is Niki :)
Hahahaha that reminds me if a girl in high school who wanted to be unique so she made her prom dress out if AstroTurf. Seriously. I was curious what her wedding dress would be like, but she went with something totally normal lol. I don't know why my last post posted 4 times, weird!!!!
ugh, so TWICE I started a response here with the proper quotes, and it got deleted. Stupid cell phone. So I am just going to say THANK YOU for your comment about my dress! I hope it will be beautiful! yes, timmy's coffee's are highly addictive, and high in fat and sugar, but soooo delicious. Within moderation of course. ummmm, let's see, what else. OH, Sunday's I am cool with! I think we should start a check in, weight loss thread. or do we just want to keep it in here. Scratch that, let's just keep it here! This is Operation Wedding Dress for all of us!! Let's go ladies! We can do it! I bought my dress in January, so...... about 21 months in advance! :S As much as I love my dress, I was terrified, because I knew I am not the size I want to be at all. But luckily, my mom understands and knows that, and pushed me to buy the dress in a size that didn't fit me on the day of, knowing it will motivate me to lose the weight and be the most beautiful version of me I can be on my wedding day. I didn't really get the "wedding dress" shopping experience, so I am going out shopping with girlfriends and my mom, FMIL, and grandmother, so they feel a part of this whole adventure with me. Plus, I only tried on like 4 dresses, and I felt like a fat cow in every single one of them. I want to try on some dresses that fit, and have that experience, as that is why we are doing this whole wedding thing in the first place! It's all about not missing our on the experiences in life- having those "check" moments.
Got that right! This is all of our "Operation Wedding Dress"!! I like what you're doing, going again, but careful you don't fall in love with a new dress!! I'm so proud of myself, I didn't drink a single calorie yesterday!!

AHAHAHA. When I read this I was like oh...., well, okay then. Thank goodness you were joking, I was so busy trying to figure out how to respond positively and nicely LOL

So your looking for something loose and flowy, not a princess kind of dress than? That's cool..... I had the same vision. I actually didn't think I was going to like the bodice of my dress- at first i thought it was too much. I had always envisioned something very simple, without much to is. Kind of like this:

700

But I seem to have fallen for my dress, after I had major guilt over shopping without all my special people. I completely hear you on the not wanting the dress to be heavy- not something I want when having to stand on a hot beach, in the scortching Mexican sun LOL.

Nice to (virtually) meet you Niki! smile29.gif

P.S. What is your real name? CAKnight just doesn't work for me! LOL

Ha! I had absolutely ZERO intention of buying my dress so early. We were just supposed to be going to a wedding show, as my Mom had never been before, and just take in the newness of my engagement, not BUY a sample dress. LOL But she fell in love with it, and it was exactly what I was looking for, so..... why not haha. I still plan on having fun this summer and trying on a bunch of different dresses and such, to get that full experience.

It's actually nice to see the weight coming off too. I put on a dress I wore a couple of weeks ago, and I don't have the budgely belly under it like I did a few weeks ago. Actually fell pretty straight down, which is awesome. woot.gifJust have a little belly bump now.... that could be mistaken for a little baby bump, so that needs to go ASAP. (not that I don't want kids..... I REALLY, really DO..... but I don't want to be mistaken for being pregnant when it's just me being a fatty haha).

Yeah, being down to 17 months now until our wedding means I have to work a little bit harder than I have been...... BUT, don't have to go completely crazy with negative calories. FI is gone to a conference for a few days, so I can eat good food while he is away. You would think it would be the opposite (and I will have some chips tomorrow with TV shows I am sure), but I can actually make a dinner filled with veggies and he won't complain! I am so flipping excited to make a giant stirfry tonight filled with a crap load of veggies! He HATES stirfry's, but I am so stoked haha.

So exciting your going shopping with them!!!!!! I think it's so special when you get to share in that moment with them :) Have a ton of fun and be silly! It is your time!

LOL!

My mom and Nana (grandma) don't live in the same state as I do. They are coming to town Thursday AM...so I am super excited. We plan on going dress hunting so they get to share in the experience with me. So, I'm glad you're going to do that with your family too.

I'm so proud of myself, I didn't drink a single calorie yesterday!!

Oh I don't think I will.... and my Mom has already said if I do fall in love with another dress, we can sell this one, as we still have time. I don't think I will, as I love it more and more the longer time goes on since I bought it. I think once I put a veil on with this dress, no other dress will touch it. My mom works with a lady who is going to make my veil- we just have to buy the material, and pay for her time. Still probably be cheaper than buying one in the store.... and if not, well, something I can hand down to my daughter (if I have one!). I am looking to have something like this, to go with my dress:

700

It has rhinestones throughout, with a thin silk edge to it.

I wish I could say the same about drinking any calories..... totally have a cranberry and vodka last night. I don't know what the eff if up with me. No alcohol tonight/ the rest of the week. I didn't even realize what I did, until I was about half way done. Like seriously haha.

FI is going down to Niagara Falls for a conference today through Saturday, and he is going on a wine tour this afternoon. I am soooooo jealous, as he doesn't even drink wine! But I have asked him to pick me up a small bottle of ice wine.....so I will totally and completely indulge in that on Sunday. LOVE ice wine, especially from Niagara. And I am sure this year was flipping fantastic, since it was soooooooo cold for so long!

Nothing will be worse than finding a dress that you love and then finding out that you no longer have enough time to order it.  I would advise that you don't wait any later than 8 months out.

Also remember that some dresses offer more flexability than others... A-line vs mermaid or lace-up corset vs zip closure.

AstroTurf is different. At least she went with something traditional the day of her wedding, could you imagine those wedding pics in like 30-50 yrs from now if it was an astroturf wedding dress! lol

Yay for not drinking calories! woot.gif

Btw, we know Jenny's name, now we know my name is Niki....so now, it's your turn! :)

I mean you know my weight, height and now name (interesting how you knew about my weight and height before my name.lol). So I thought it was time for a little joke. lol. I'm sure you had to take a sip after you read that comment shots.gif LOL

YES, something like that (plus a similar bodice to yours)! I want it to have some movement as I walk down the aisle on the beach. Plus, it might be more forgiving!

As far as the heat goes, my FH wanted to wear a sand (color) linen suit. (I had to put color because I didn't want you guys to think my dress would be TP and duct tape and his suit was made out of sand. LOL) :) But, I told him he would be wearing more of a sweat suit than anything else. lol So now, we are on to my more comfortable option for him.

Well, things do tend to happen when you least expect them. At least, finding the dress is one less thing that you have to worry about. With having a dress that you want to look a certain way in...you are killing two birds with one stone woot2.gif

I understand what you mean about having the "baby bump" and wanting one...just not now. That's what my stomach looks like in certain clothes. I was upset when one of my relatives asked me if I was pregnant right after my college graduation. Literally, right after the ceremony was over. It's like you just saw me yesterday. You could have asked me then. Thanks for putting a cloud over my special day. Because I wanted to be reminded about how I was overweight that day! smh

I love stirfry. I love how you can mix it up with different veggies, sauces, rice or pasta (or neither). What's even better is that it's mostly veggies you have eat a lot of it, so you can actually be full!!! :)

I will let you know how dress shopping goes! I'm sure I will have fun. Just have to remember to eat first so that I have the energy to try everything on. haha

Nice to (virtually) become more acquainted too, Jenny! cool.gif

At least with a homemade veil, you know that it will be you! You can tell her exactly how you want it (and it will be really special if you have a daughter. It will give a new meaning to something old :) ) I'm debating if I want to wear a veil. It might be so windy on the beach that it could be distracting.

Niagara Falls...looks beautiful with the light show. I'm glad someone told us about that, even though there was only 20 mins left to see it (still plenty of time). It's a must see!

So, I gotta ask...I don't drink wine. I know a few things. But, what is ice wine? Is a Canadian term for wine? haha

Yes, this thread was been awesome. I love when people are really involved in a thread! It makes the whole wedding experience more fun for me! :)

Wow...it seems like such a long process for the dress!

Congrats! Looks like your wedding is right around the corner! msnparty.gif

Exactly! I am very excited to see what she does, and know I will love it anyways, because someone made it for me. I debated on whether or not to have a veil because of the wind, but I'm only getting married once (ha, okay, well twice since we are doing the legal thing this year, and then the beach wedding next year), I don't want to miss out on the veil experience. To me, it makes me look a bride, so.... for me, it was a non-negotiable.

Niagara Falls is beautiful all year round, but you appreciate it much more when it is summer here. Southern Ontario is gorgeous in summer and fall.... but winter, ugh, I absolutely hate it here. Especially this year... winter has gone on and on and on. Take today, it is warm and sunny out and I was so excited to see that. Still am. And worried because it is currently snowing in Texas, which means that is probably coming here, and I DO NOT want snow in May.

No, ice wine isn't just Canadian wine (but how freaking awesome would that be!). We have regular wine (Niagara wine has really stepped it's wine game up within the past few years). Ice wine is when they make wine using frozen grapes- so it is super sweet. I LOVE it, and if you like sweet things, I would suggest buying a bottle at some point in your life. It can be very expensive (as all delicious things are), but so worth it. It is an acquired taste- people either love it, or dislike it. I adore it, my best friend, who drinks the exact same kind of wine on a regular basis as me, despises it. It's a dessert kind of wine, and you can only have a little bit of it at a time (because of the sweetness).

LOL- that is funny how I knew your weight and height before your name. Oh well! Such is a wedding board experience!

Yes, FI will be looking into what he wants to wear- he is thinking a grey suit, and he has been there, knows the heat and humidity, so..... I am leaving it up to him! If he wants to sweat in a full suit, that is on him! I will try and advise him, but he is a fashion-conscious kind of man, so he will do what he wants, regardless of what I have to say!

Ugh, the "fat" baby bump is the worse. But at least I know how cute I will look with one- I just only want it for a real pregnancy, not this fat roll LOL

Yes, eat before you go. AND, make your makeup and hair something that you like. Not necessarily wedding like, but maybe a bit more than just on a day to day basis. More, going out kind of makeup and hair. The worst is when you put on a beautiful dress, and your hair is a mess and you're wearing no makeup/ it's all rubbed off. It completely ruins the moment for you (I know from experience LOL)
