A little thing I like to call "Operation Wedding Dress" (aka, my dress is too small... but it won't be soon!)

LOL yeah, that is a pretty bad date! Awesome though- won't ever forget it, but wwwwwaaaaayyyy too busy of a time of the year to get married/ the expense is ridiculous.

How did you come to decide on your wedding date? Was it just a date that was available, or was there some kind of meaning to the date?

I'm interested in how people chose their wedding date, as ours is so obviously laid out for us, I wouldn't dare mess with it.

I wish it was meaningful in any way but no. I wanted a May wedding actually because May has always been a good month but my sister won't get out of school until almost the end of June so I picked the very end of June to make sure that she could be there since we will be my maid of honor. I also did not want July because it is more expensive, very popular and so busy. August is when Hurricane season really kicks in so it had to be June 28. It worked out perfectly because my family member with kids can make it since they will be off from school too.

I wonder what will happen September of 2015. Maybe a little Jenny or little Amir? stork-baby.gif

I can understand why you wouldn't want to change it. He might forget when the new date is! oops.gif

In terms of wanting both to be special, you could consider doing some unique ceremony ideas for either or both of them! Here is the unique ceremonies link: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/4785/unique-ceremonies/

I am considering which ones I want to do to make my ceremony special...I'm considering during several.

For years, I have been wanting to have a unique wedding...like something in a different country. I told my FH that if we got married here, then I wanted him to propose to me in a foreign country or vice versa. So, it seems like it will be a DW then! lol love.gif

Yes, if you share, then they may not understand. I think it will cause more headaches if you share. BangHead.gif

I used to live in CA (hence, the CA part of my name)! What part(s) have you been to?

Haha I'm guessing your friend says nice things about America!

Yes, so our legal wedding will be on our one year engagement anniversary (out 11 year dating anniversary), and then the big wedding will be on our two year engagement anniversary, one year legally married anniversary (and twelve year dating anniversary)! HA! See why we don't want to change the date hahahahaha. I guess it will be like a vow renewal, though I didn't want it to be that way..... but it will mean a lot to my Baba (grandma), if we say some form of vow in front of her.

Yes, we are getting married at Dreams because we got engaged there September 2012. So it's a great symmetry. Plus, we (I) always wanted a destination wedding. He is totally fine with the city hall wedding be the be it and end of it all. But he knows this will mean a lot to me, to have the slightly bigger wedding, with the dress and everything.

What will we consider our anniversary? I don't know haha. I am assuming the 2014 one, as this is just a very informal legal ceremony that we are doing this year. It's one of those things that we will tell our kids.... we dated for 10 years, then got legally married, then had our big wedding the year after.... blah  blah. I don't know... we aren't telling anyone we are doing this, as we don't want anyone to feel like it's not "real". Because it will be to us.... hence my complete indecision around the vows, as I don't want to take anything away from our wedding in MX. I'll decide as it gets closer to September of this year haha.

I haven't been to FL :( Been to CA a few times because my aunt and uncle live there, been to OK and TX when they moved there for a few years. And have driven through most of the top states on our way out to Saskatchewan. Florida is on my list of places to go though. One of our best friends is from El Salvador, and he went to school in FL for a few years before coming up to Ontario. He always talks fondly of his time there, and how much he learned about American culture so quickly haha.

Wedding dresses are made with a different sizing than what we are used to and so often we hear a number like 10 and go into shock because we're use to being a size 4. The dresses are usually ordered to fit your largest body part. So while you may be a size 2 in the waist, your hips and butt may be an 8 and your bust a size 4. In that case you gotta get your dress in an 8 and take in the rest. :-(

A number is just a number. You really need to go with an expert opinion UNLESS of course you have the time and are committed to eating well and working out to lose what you need to lose. SUCKS, I know.... So here's my tips to share:

  • No food after 9pm (I go to bed around midnight so just be sure that you do'nt eat 3 hrs before whatever time you go to sleep)
  • The only carbs that I ate were the ones with real substance: sweet potatoes, quinoa, oatmeal and brown rice.
  • If you want a drink, try nature's fruit juice...WATER
  • Excercise 4-5x wk
  • Get in some form of physical activity EVERY DAY
  • I also did the lemon water cleanse. I asked my naturopath about the master cleanse aka Beyonce Diet and she told me NO WAY! Said it's way too harsh on the body. She suggested I do a more natural cleanse in its place which was to drink lemon and hot water. First thing in the morning when you wake and after every meal. Try it and watch how often you'll go pee lol. I also feel it made my skin look better and my period cramps almost non existent.

Goodluck!

Oh and one more thing that's key! When you workout be sure to include resistance training aka weights. Muscle tissue burns far more calories while your body is at rest than fat so the more muscle on your body the more calories you burn overall.

That's all....hope that's helpful.

Thanks for the tips!

The tip about the weights is important. A fitness person told me that when you are losing weight it is important to tone. If you don't do tone, as well as,cardio, then you will be left with saggy skin from where your fat used to be! undecided.gif

hahahahahaha! MAYBE! My bestie says that we are destined to have a baby on that date now haha. Or conceive one on that date. Awwww you made me think of her, and I haven't seen her since Christmas, as she is out in Calgary. Cannot wait for her to come home at the end of June!

I am following the unique ceremonies- thinking of doing the sand ceremony in MX. Really like that.

I like that you wanted there for be a foreign country aspect to your wedding/ engagement! I just wanted to get engaged haha. Friends came and went, met people, got engaged, got married, and were having babies and here we were, still dating like we were in high school. I was about ready to throttle him. But he finally got a clue and realized just because his friends weren't doing it, doesn't mean he doesn't have to do it... lol

Yeah, I definitely think it will be more of a headache..... but if my bestie really can't come, I am thinking of telling her, so she doesn't feel so left out about not being there. I havent decided on that yet either.... again, as time goes on I will see how I feel about it!

In California, I flew into LAX, and my aunt and uncle lived in Thousand Oaks? They now live in Irving, as my uncle works in.... crap, Orange County haha (had to think of the O.C. in order to remember that.... thank goodness for TV shows!)

Yes, he did have nice things to say..... he loved FL. Had he not met us and came to school here and fallen in love with being here, he probably would have gone back to FL.

WOW! So much to catch up on... I'm going to forget everything I meant to say.

My name - Heather :)

Ice wine... you gotta try Maple Dessert Wine one day... omg, best thing EVER!

Jenny, I'm getting married at a Dreams in Mexico too, which one??

I picked Mexico because we wanted a destination wedding since our families don't live close, especially mine, they're in Nova Scotia and I'm in Alberta.  We chose Mexico for two reasons, one because of price (we considered St Lucia but too pricey) and two because my FH's mother is from Acapulco, so it's special to her.

I'm sure I missed a lot here... so.. um... feel free to catch me up.  I laughed a lot reading, which was great since today was so crappy at work.. ugh.

Stressful day, started out with a coffee and muffin "treat", I know, bad Heather. Then I get to work and there are donuts... So many donuts... I shared one, had less than 1/2. THEN came the unbelieveable stress, I went out for lunch and haddddddd....... Salad :) and watermelon :) This is a good thing! A sign of great change!

Thanks Jessica! So ladies, how are you measuring your progress? I'm weighing myself regularly, and I was measured when I tried on my dress so I can look at that too.... My plan is really to try on my dress monthly, what I should have dine was measure how far apart the zipper was.... I'm gonna do that this month. May 22 is the next try on - dress lives at my step-mothers house to hide it from FH. Some other motivation I use is the weight loss challenge at my work, and I love to cruise the health and fitness page on Pinterest, so many great tips, recipes and motivational photos there!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
