Hi Ladies, 'Just did Bride's dress rehearsal.  Love AB!  The website says 50 people at Blue restaurant and 50 at Blue terrac.  Will that not hold 100 people?  I read in a blog differently.  Possibly even buffet style?  Do they do offer buffet style here?  I love this resort and I'm worried they may not be able to accomodate even 80 people.  I was told that they could at the bride's dress rehearsal site visit, but I've seen and heard otherwise through Miami planners.  Also, if some of their areas can hold 80 people (the ballroom) where does one have her ceremony?  On the beach..perhaps with some people standing in the back?  I am concerned that more people than I expect will show.  Does anyone know the protocol for a little larger group?

At the start of my planning I wanted AB. I was told if I had a group of 80 it was not possible.

Further to that (when I tried to push) I was told that if my rooming list hit 80 people, they would simply move my group (subject to availability) to another resort and my planning would need to restart. I did not want that stress. I agree it's beautiful- but after a lot of thought- I agreed that it's a bit too small for our large group and I didn't want people tripping over one another on the resort and a bit larger location would allow people to have some personal time when wedding events weren't happening.

So where did you end up having your wedding? I didn't get to see the Sensatori.

Not married yet! Just did the BDR in June but we settled on sensatori. I loved the attention to detail on food/drinks that Karisma offers so knew I wanted to stay in their family of resorts. Sensatori had a very welcoming feel and although the beach was not great, everything else was amazing. I didn't want my gueat paying $2500-$2800/pp for Generations, so Sensatori it was! I'm happy with my decision and my guests have looked at the resort online and are thrilled with our choice and booking quickly. It's not very spread out like some AIs I've been too- but still gives our guests enough space to breathe away from a fellow wedding guest if they choose. It's not as "boutique" as AB and the beach isn't as nice... But for a larger AI that could accommodate my size of group it's perfect.

We are having our wedding at ABH in Sept... we actually visited onsite in Jan 2014 before booking.  We didn't do a BDR, but stayed for 5 days so we got to see a few weddings.  The one night, there was a wedding with 75 people.  If you have a party that large, they close down Blue Restaurant, and the outdoor area is where you'll have dinner and dancing.  I almost wish we had enough people to do that because it looked awesome!  Our wedding is MUCH smaller (33 people) and so we are using Chil Terrace.  If you like the boutique hotel, I would stick with ABH, but if you want a bigger, more spread out resort, go for one of the larger ones.  :)

Thanks for your help! So are you doing sky ceremony? And what about reception? Not having visited, I'm trying to envision! :)

For Sensatori that is- where is reception?

That's good to know about Blue restaurant! You'll love AB!

We are doing the sky deck for the ceremony and cocktails following.... And then moving to plaza zavaz which is an outdoor venue with a covered gazebo, for the reception. If you google plaza zavaz you will see lots of pictures.

"amyeprice77" - do you know where the party of 75 had their ceremony? Love the Chil terrace btw!

Kmk2016- do you know the max capacity for plaza zavaz?

It's an outdoor venue where they have to bring in tables for your event (not an existing restaurant or anything)... When I saw it, it looked to be around 80 guests but there was room for more tables for sure.. It takes over a pool deck around the gazebo and stretches around as space requires. The gazebo is usually left empty and serves as the dance floor. They remove all pool chairs at about noon to start preparing the space for evening receptions so it's very beautiful and seemed quite private considering! (You really have to be walking there knowing it was where you were going, to run into it)

  • 1 month later...

@@amyeprice77 I saw you had your reception at Chill terrace, that's where we wanted ours but our coordinator said no if it was over 30 people, did they allow you to go a couple people over? How did everything go? What food did you choose for yor reception? We were set on the BBQ deluxe and our coordinator is now letting us know since that's a buffet option we can't have over 25 people. Was there room for dancing on the terrace? She is also telling me we would have to have dancing inside the restaurant and the terrace would just be for eating??? Sorry for all the questions!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
