May 2014 Brides & Past Bride advice

Recommended Posts

Hi all!!

I am also a May 2014 bride :)

I am in the process of finalizing my contract at Secrets Maroma Beach! I am so excited. I, too, had a lot of trouble choosing a resort, but some of my main points on my wishlist were adults only, all inclusive, fairly easy travel for guests, and nice beach. And that's what brought me to SMB :)  I saw a couple of questions posted so I'll quickly answer. My colors will be gray and yellow, with the reason being yellow is my favorite color and gray is an awesome compliment to that. My wedding will probably be around 30 people.

I feel like I might be behind on planning since I haven't done any save the dates yet or anything, but plan on having them down in the next few weeks! I will keep posting updates.

Happy planning all!

I am hoping something will jump out and scream PICK ME in a magazine or something soon haha. My fiance keeps saying pink and brown, and he never has opinion on anything so I feel like I should consider it, but I don't think brown is very beachy? I mint green as well. As you can tell I'm struggling with this lol.

By the way I followed your link further back in the thread to check out your STD's. They are absolutely fabulous!!!

Futurefiler87 I love the Navy coral or even Navy Orange. These are all nice!

Thanks so much, my STD's saved me so much money!!

Hey all and congrats to all the May '14 brides! I got engaged end of March and got right to planning haha. My fiance and I are getting married May 17th '14 at Secrets Maroma Beach in Riviera Maya and we are SO excited. We actually picked the resort based on friends who are avid all inclusive Mexican/Caribbean resort goers, and they could not rave enough about this place! After looking into the resort, I can see why! woot.gif

So far we've gotten the contract down with the basics with the coordinator (with some issues I must say), picked a travel agent to book the entire trip through, and I am now looking to finalize a photographer. So many to choose from and so expensive blink.gif.. but it will be worth it... right? Right!  I'm glad to hear that I am not the only one who feels this awkward lull starting now since apparently the real decisions don't come together until a few months prior to the wedding.

Ah.. I also picked my dress... I totally didn't want to give in to the cliche, but I went to Kleinfeld's in NYC this weekend and totally fell in love with a Pnina Tornai...undecided.gif I will needless to say have to re-arrange my budget as I spent way more on the dress than initially intended.

Not 100% sure about colors yet... actually looking for some suggestions! My sister will be doing the STD and invitations (gotta love having an advertising/art major in the family) and the STD are going to be a blue around this hue... I was leaning towards bright pops of color such as that bright turquoise, bring hot pink, green and cream? Not sure.

Congrats again and I'm looking forward to being able to bounce ideas and feedback with everyone here!

Congratulations on your engagement! Getting the venue down is the biggest step (one I'm still struggling with!).  The great thing is that there are so many fabulous photographers at a number of price points. I think I mentioned this on one thread, but every wedding coordinator that I have talked to that does destination weddings has strongly recommended bringing in an outside photographer.  One said that all of her brides that went with resort photographers were very disappointed. (Some on here have had good luck, but if you don't have to chance it..)

I do like that blue and I'm all about pops of color! Have you thought about doing that blue with a turquoise to evoke the sea, or maybe even a different shade of blue?

Finally made a photographer decision! After going back and forth we decided on taking someone local with us instead of using someone in Mexico. We couldn't beat the prices she gave us. FI doesn't understand quite yet that it'll be better in the long wrong, but I care about photos a lot as I'm sure all of you ladies do, and I want someone I feel comfortable with and can easily communicate what I want.

Thanks for all of the inspiration links for color suggestions! I found some photos of a wedding that was really bright aqua/turquoise with pops of red. The blue has to be the right shade to not make it look patriotic, but its fabulous. I am still loving navy/coral and navy/orange though. I might have to look at bridesmaid dresses to actually decide.

My FI didn't see the big deal about using a resort photographer either (and neither did my mom), but I think what helps is for people to see the different photographers  and their styles stacked up side by side.  I sent wedding planner I was thinking of working with examples of what I didn't want (not knocking the photographer, but it looked like typical wedding stuff) and examples of photographers that I loved.

I can't wait to see your final decision on colors. I really do think that all of these color palates rock (and I'm not just saying that).  I'm still thinking of the navy, silver, coral and maybe the right purple...

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
