Hair & Makeup Turks & Caicos -- Don't use Shenique/Sheque Perfection

Just posting this as a tip for Provo brides--steer clear of Shenique Higgs/Sheque Perfection. She is SOOO not worth the money. You are better off getting a lesson from someone at home and doing it yourself or shopping around on the island for a better deal. She was the most unpleasant person to deal with and was totally unwilling to accommodate even the most basic request despite her extremely steep prices. I was in a panic to book someone and didn't take the time to shop around and really wish that I had.

Let me count the ways in which she was awful:

1) She refused to meet before the wedding day to discuss what look I was interested in or to do a trial, insisting this was standard for weddings (um, no; most places do trials before hand) and claiming she was booked for weddings 2 times a day every day.

2) She insisted on showing up at 11 am for a 5:30 wedding even though I was having a simple hairstyle, my two bridal party members were only getting blowouts.

3) She showed up 20 minutes late anyway, then complained when it took 10 more minutes for everyone to get there.

4) After all that, she was done with everyone a full two hours before the ceremony started.

5) She refused to use individual lashes on me even though I specifically didn't want the tranny fake lash look.

6) She used bronzer on me even though I specifically didn't want it.

7) She didn't take any time to discuss the desired makeup look for me or for my mom, just started spackling makeup on our faces.

8) My sister asked if she could use her hairspray and she said yes, but "only if she didn't leave the room with it."

I know we all have our opinions on what we consider AMAZING and all I can say is that Shenique Higgs did an AMAZING job on my hair and make-up for my beach wedding!! She was very professional and kind and kept this VERY emotional bride calm and laughing!!!! She listened to my concerns and needs and to be honest my husband was beyond pleased with what he saw when I walked down the sand to him!!! She arrived on time and took her time and made my wedding dreams come true!!! I am in the business of fashion and hair and make-up are EXTREMELY important and Shenique Higgs delivered beyond my expectations!!! I will post a picture and you can see for yourself the AMAZING results.I think you get way more then you pay for with her!!!! All my friends and family could not stop complimenting me on my hair and make-up. I am a bride of 45 and I looked and felt more BEAUTIFUL on my wedding day then I could have ever imagined!!! I am so sad to read this review! I am truly sorry that you were unhappy and felt extra stress on such an important day. I certainly don't want to stir up any hard feelings but I just can't read that and say nothing after my experience using Shenique left me feeling quite the opposite. There is a reason she is the most talked about and in demand hair and make up artist on the island. I feel it is important to consider all aspects of the situation. This time of year there are so many weddings in Provo that wedding planners, caterers and stylists have to delicately work their scheduled to accommodate as many brides as possible without compromising quality. I know that under normal circumstances she will book a trial if requested. I do not feel a trial is necessary, you can look at her work on the website and Facebook and see that she does a beautiful job. If you want a specific look, you can show her through pictures. I did this by email before hand but also had some saved to a Pinterest board to show her specifically what I wanted. For me this worked great but for anyone anxious, a trial might be a good idea. I agree it is pricy, but it is very comparable to the other options on the island. I looked at several combinations of local hair and make up and when you add them up plus the call out fee they are pretty evenly priced. One sould do their own but for my day I was not about to put that kind of pressure on myself. Thank goodness too because with all the humidity, sweat and wind I know my own work would not have lasted into the night as Shenique's did. As to the lashes, I had extensions put on at home so did not need them but looking at her pictures I think she does an excellent job keeping brides looking natural and not at all tranny! I would love to see before and after pictures of your look, I bet you were a lovely bride! For others out there, I did a thorough review of my experience with Shenique and I hope you will take the time to read and consider it before ruling her out. What a shame it would be to miss an opportunity to have your hair and make up done by such talent on the most important day of your life. As much as you are paying for a photographer, don't you want to look your absolute best in all your pictures? From my official review- My initial contact with Shenique was very prompt and professional. We emailed a bit and locked down the date. As the wedding got closer I created a pinterest board with the looks I liked and wanted to share with her. I wanted to wear my hair long but pulled back and swept to the side. I made a hair comb out of a broach and made a long veil to wear for the ceremony but take out for the reception. Shenique arrived on time and armed with everything she needed to make me fabulous. She worked on my hair first then did my makeup. She was very patient with the many distractions and interruptions that occur on a wedding day. She tailored a look for me that was exactly what I had in mind and I felt like the best possible version of myself- but still myself. Looking at our wedding pictures and video, I know I made the right choice in using her. There are spots in the videos where I can see the sweat glisten on my back but my face and hair held up through it all. I used some Clean and Clear blotting sheets before the reception to take care of some shine but that is the only touching up I did. I think the pictures speak for themselves. Shenique agreed to have come back the next day and do it all again. After my initial reluctance to use a hair/makeup artist at all, I actually did it twice! My husband was adament that he not see me before the ceremony so in order to get all of the pictures I wanted we compromised by arranging a second day with the photographer. I am so very glad we did because we were able to go to various sites around the island and some of those pictures ended up my favorites. It was well worth the added expense! The second day I felt much more calm and relaxed and enjoyed more conversation with Shenique as she worked. Because she had just done everything the previous day, she was able to work very efficently. We got some fantastic shots that second day and I am so grateful Shenique was available for both. I would also highly recommend Shenique to any bride getting married in Providenciales.  I was married there on April 10, 2013 and had my hair and makeup done by Shenique.  I read very good reviews about her work and decided to book her for my wedding.  I am very glad I did.  I should mention that I am VERY picky and have very high expectations.  Prior to my arrival in Turks and Caicos I emailed Shenique with several photos of what I was looking for (so there were no surprises) and she did exactly what I wanted.  I showed her what colours I usually use and what I wanted to avoid and she accommodated me with that.  Both my hair and my makeup looked fantastic.  My skin was flawless and had an amazing glow without looking like I was wearing layers of makeup.  I had so many compliments on my hair and makeup not only from family and friends but also from complete strangers.  Even people viewing my wedding pictures keep asking who did my hair and makeup because both looked amazing.    I hate to say it but I find most of your complaints a bit feeble.  Based on my personal experience trial sessions are always extra and have to be booked separately whether for destination weddings or back home.  Her prices are not extremely steep but are pretty standard if you look around. As for the hairspray I donâ€t think that was an unreasonable request not to leave the room with it.  I donâ€t know about you but I would like to keep track of my items too especially when doing several weddings a day and relying on those products.  Iâ€m not implying that someone would steal a can of hairspray but simply misplace it in all the commotion.  You would not want to be the bride whoâ€s told “Sorry, I came here straight from my other appointment and I know I had that product in my bagâ€.   If the appointment time did not suit you, you should have found somebody else.  In the end YOU agreed to it so you can hardly complain about it, simple as that.  Also, waiting until you get there to discuss the look you want is a bad idea.  I used email to communicate my wishes and email pictures well in advance and I got exactly what I wanted.  You should always find out what is and what is not included before booking anything, be it a hairstylist or a caterer.  Donâ€t make any assumptions.  Itâ€s your wedding so ultimately itâ€s your responsibility.  Individual lash applications are often extra because they are more time consuming, itâ€s up to you to let the makeup artist know in advance what you want done.  For those looking for a professional stylist and makeup artist you cannot go wrong with Shenique. She will ensure you look your very best on the most important day of your life. You will not be disappointed.

Ok sounds good.

The following statement is taken from our contract sent to all of our brides:

TIME:

We are mindful of the excitement that comes along with having a destination wedding including visiting family and friends. Please keep in mind that our schedule is based on the best way to service all of our clients. We set the time to render services however; we will accommodate requests where possible.

HOUSE RULES:

HOUSE RULES: While we are mindful of the fun outdoor activities members of the wedding party would like to participate in, events during the wedding day should be limited to make the best use of time for hair and makeup services. The stylist is limited by the timeline specific to your partyâ€s hair and makeup needs. The hair and makeup artists are not responsible for key individualâ€s failure to appear or cooperate during allotted time. Our stylist/artists come prepared to meet the needs of reserved clients. For this reason, tools including but not limited to hair spray, hair pins, blow dryers, curling irons, hair accessories and all makeup are to meet the needs of the client and will not be available for usage by others.

Sheque Perfection is a team of four (4) and the most requested Destination Wedding beauty provider in the Turks & Caicos. We are deeply saddened by the above review and found it necessary to defend our services. The above message shows that the client was given the time for services to which she agreed. This response is not a promotion. To read reviews about our services and to see brides that we have worked with you can visit our website www.shequemakeup.com

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
