ahh - when we got married in Hawaii, i had to declare my "legal" name at that time, and that was the legal change. then i had to update/change it everywhere (SS, DMV, county, state, credit cards, etc.). what i don't get is everywhere i went, including the SS Admin, they wanted proof of name change. you'd think SS would be a nationwide thing. it's not like my SS card was ever taken as proof, in fact i did that part last - it was the certificate marriage i used. weird.

I still haven't done anything about my name, still unsure what to do. I am a hypenated name right now, maiden and former married name, and my dilemma is still do I hypenate former married name (which is 3 of my children's name and been my name for 20 years) with new married name. I really want to keep all of my children's names. In my girls high school I am Mrs. Hoggan, which I will most likely remain, too many years and afterall it is my girls name, but in Liams school which is still Timothy's and has been for 9 years I have asked to be called Mrs. Mitchell. It is so confusing as the teachers have known me since Nicole was in JK, but it is timothy's last year and a new era beginning with Liam. My ex husbands girlfriend will have a fit if I keep the Hoggan, she does not like me and wants to wipe any trace that we were married away, good luck to that since our beautiful children our never going anywhere. It drives her nuts that my children are the image of me, and everyone is always telling them that. This lady is a little name crazy, she wanted to get married and be a Hoggan so bad, that when my ex told her he was never marrying again she had her name legally changed to Hoggan without the marriage, nuts huh!

I still haven't. almost 7 months later. I only have a couple of pages left in my passport. I am waiting until they're all filled up and I absolutely have to go through the mess of getting a new one so that I can do everything at once. I travel internationally pretty often, so it shouldn't be long

Nope, I'm a slacker too! And I've been married for 7 months now! Part of my excuse is that I want to keep my credit rating separated from my DH's right now. But really, I just haven't done anything about it. And honestly, I'm ok with it. I use my legal name for things that require it, and I use his last name when I can. And sometimes I hyphenate it!! I'm evil!

**Another thing I just thought of, I don't want to be the third Mrs. His Last Name. His mom is the only person that has the right to that name, but his ex-wife still goes by it "for the kids" (whatever). So, deep down, that's a big part of it too.

I am dreading the name change process. I am realizing now as it gets closer just how many things need to be changed. My plan is to start the process right after the wedding, but we'll see how that goes.

Unfortunately, I can't hyphenate or keep my maiden as another middle name. My maiden name is 2 words so it would just be toooooo much. I have to pick one or the other and it's important to FI that I take his name.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
