Paradisus Cancun - New to the forum

Hi Ladies! I am excited to be on here -- but no clue where to start. Hoping starting a new thread is the way to go??

I am deciding on whether to have my wedding at the Paradisus Playa Del Carmen or Paradisus Cancun (already put a deposit down on the Paradisus!). The prices for guests and the beach seems to be better at Cancun but overall resort seems to be better in Playa?

Has anyone had experiences at either one - and can you please tell me about them?? Pros/Cons -

I would love any input!!

Thank you!

We are getting married at Paradisus Cancun at the beginning of May (gazebo ceremony and pool side reception).  It has been hard to plan without seeing things and they have very few pictures to provide.  We just had to learn to relax and hope it all comes together.  The decor team has been super nice and helpful but some of their prices are ridiculous.  $550 for 40 Chinese lanterns that I could probably pick up in downtown LA for about $50 max.  However, they let you bring in your own decor for a "set-up fee" of $1.50 a piece.  We are bringing a few items with us in order to keep the cost down and not feel too ripped off.

The $1,000 outside vendor fee is insane as well - especially since they only give you two photographers to choose from.  We originally wanted Dani from SweetCaribbean but she was booked and the alternative, David Pena, well let's just say that his email exchange was less than professional.  So we ended up booking Octavio Montes who so far has been amazing!  You can check out some of his work here: http://www.octaviomontes.com/

I will post again after the wedding to let you in on any other tips that we might have!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!! It's coming up soon!

We are getting married July 7, 2014 and have booked the gazebo and La Perla restaurant.

I totally agree with you and think that the décor prices are absolutely ridiculous! I could not believe the prices that they wanted to charge. We don't want to be ripped off either so we are bringing our own décor and silk flowers.

In regards to the vendors, I guess we were lucky and booked with Sweet Caribbean Photography. If you plan on a videographer an/or DJ, make sure you negotiate prices. The DJ at JSAV tried to overcharge us (even beyond his price listing he first gave to us)!! I could not believe it! We negotiated a bit and managed to get the price to be more affordable. Same went with the videographer (but he was not as outrageous). I did not know prices were negotiable as we don't do that here much in Canada.

Anyway yes, please do let us know how it goes! Any tips would be appreciated.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
