To those who had a civil wedding in Cabo, HELP...

I have a question for those brides that had a civil marriage in Cabo. I called the state of NJ to see how to get my marriage certificate translated into English and registered with the United States. The state told me that I can not change my name or do anything until I have an English version of the marriage certificate. She said I am legally married, but the DMV, credit card companies etc will not accept a spanich version. She then told me that they do not translate it and I have two options.

1) I have to get Mexico to translate it into English for me.

2) I apply for a re-marriage certificate in the state of NJ and get married again. The issue with that is in the eyes of the US, this new day will be my official marriage day in the US. She also said this may be a better option because if I ever lose the certificate or if it gets damaged, I have to contact Mexico in order to get a new one issued.

 

I wanted to know what other brides did after they had a spanish marirage certificate. Did Mexico provide you with an English version or did you go somewhere and get it translated in English? I e-mailed Yesica at Dreams to see if they will issue an english version, but I can't see them doing this since Spanish is their native language.

Do you have an outside wedding coordinator? I still don't know much about it...but I should figure it out fast! :) I learned a little from TammyB. I think you need an apostile?? Which costs like $95 and that means that they translate it in english. It take like 3 days though so if you aren't staying that long after the wedding then they have to mail it to you. Maye and TammyB told me all of this. It does seem like a bit of a hassle and I never thought about if we loose it having to have it re-issued in Mexico...I might have to reconsider...

I just heard back from Yesica at Dreams and she said that they do not provide that sevice of translating the marriage certificate. She sent me to a website Ultra Translate - Professional Certified Translation Services for International Adoptions, INS, E-Commerce, and Government documents in Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Hindi and Urdu to get it translated. I'm not sure that this is leagal in the US or not. So girls, I really need assistance on this one. What did you do with the spanish certificate and how did you go about getting your name changed etc without an english version.

My cousin got married in the D.R. last summer - she used this service to translate the certificate, it took about 2 - 3 weeks to come back and then she was able to change everything in the U.S.!

      Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010.       Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations.
