Hi All,

I just got engaged, and my fiance and I are interested in doing an early spring wedding somewhere warm and sandy :-) We are looking for relatively easy travel from NYC for ~200 people, so have been considering cancun area, DR and puerto rico (and more loosely thinking of grand cayman, USVI, key west?)

Would LOVE stories and suggestions from people who had similar considerations!

Thanks,

Diana

Welcome to the forum Diana, and Congrats on your engagement and upcoming wedding somewhere sandy !!!

Of course, we're partial to the incomparably gorgeous Mayan Riviera - evidenced by our choice of Playa del Carmen as our new hometown - haha :)

You've come to the right place for lots of info, advice + support from your fellow brides here....so you're off to a great start already, well done!

Wishing you all the best with your research, decisions and that you have the Most Amazing Wedding Ever!!! Enjoy the sand in your toes :)

Hi Diana,

Congrats on your engagement!!!

My DH's family and friends all flew to Cancun from NYC. Other than the fact that our wedding was right after Hurricane Sandy made a mess of things, they were able to get flights fairly easily. I think most of them came down on JetBlue.

I would suggest pricing flights to the various destinations and see what makes the most sense for you & your guests. Also consider what type of resort & wedding you're looking for - all inclusive, resort-based wedding, off-site wedding, etc.

The challenge with Key West is that everything is crazy expensive, and suppliers are somewhat limited. My DH's mother plans weddings for friends and family down there, and I've never heard anything but frustrations when she's dealing with vendors.

I love, love Puerto Rico too. That was in our initial list of choices. There was only one, maybe two all inclusive resorts there, so we ruled it out pretty quickly (AI's were high on our priority list when we were choosing resorts).

I like GC and the USVI too - but some of the same challenges as PR with the lack of all inclusive resorts (and I found GC to be pretty expensive when I've been there).

Just some things to think about. The most important one is to narrow down what you & your FI want, and then plan from there. Good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
