Planning thread for Royal Playa del Carmen Wedding June 2013!

Recommended Posts

Hi Ladies!

I'm getting married June 24, 2013 at the Royal Playa del Carmen.  Since it's starting to get closer I thought I better start a planning thread to keep all my planning organized and in one place.  I have found BDW to be so helpful with my planning and am so grateful to all the other brides on here who share their ideas, templates, pictures, etc.  I don't know how I'd get through this without you all!

My fiance and I got engaged June 24, 2012 while on vacation in the Dominican Republic. We actually first got together a few years ago in while vacationing with mutual friends in Mexico and so we decided what better place to tie the know than where we first got together.  In case you didn't notice, we are also getting married on the same day we got engaged.  We figured the less dates to try to remember the better, ha. Here is a picture of the bling.

The first thing I did was choose who I wanted to be in the wedding and tried to come up with a thoughtful way to ask them.  Since it was summer, I purchased wine totes from target and got them each a bottle of wine that they like.  I ordered customized wine bottle lables from Etsy ( http://www.etsy.com/shop/iDoArtsyWeddings) asking them to be my bridesmaid/maid of honor. I then made each of them a customized WV wine glass because they are all big WV fans. I purchased the glasses at the Dollar Store and the paint at Michael's. They turned out great I thought.  Then I made a card for each of them and gave them each their gift. They all loved them!

Next up were the save the dates.  I did a boarding ticket type save the date that I purchsed on Etsy (http://www.etsy.com/shop/alisamariedesigns).  I then bought raffia at Michael's and ordered silver starfish off Ebay to tie on to the front to add a little pop.

The resort--

My fiance wanted an adults-only resort so that narrowed our options down a good bit.  After reading tons of reviews on here, TripAdvisor and talking with travel agents, we decided on the Royal Playa del Carmen.  We thought the location would be perfect since guests will be able to walk to 5th Ave and take the ferry to Cozumel if they want to get away without having to worry about transportation. We decided to use the oceanfront gazebo as our ceremony location.  Our cocktail hour and reception will be held in the same area.

I sent our invitations out sometime in January with an RSVP deadline of March 31st.  We still have a lot that have not sent in their RSVP but I assume these folks aren't going.  We should have around 30-35 guests total (including ourselves).  I chose the invitations based on the recommendation of another bride (JordanB) and really liked them because they were simple and very reasonable I thought.  They were purchased from Etsy as well (http://www.etsy.com/shop/imaginationpad).  Here is an example (mine were more aqual and coral).

My shoes.. I wanted something that would be comfortable but also give me some height.  I ordered these after another bride told me about them (jordanb).  I just got them yesterday and tried them on and loved them. I figure no one is going to see my feet anyway and I can probably wear them again!  I got them from Zappos (http://www.zappos.com/volatile-bridal).

  • 3 weeks later...

Finally got around to taking pics of decor I have so far and DIY projects.  The decor I purchased from another bride.

These are the out of town bags I will be using:

For cards:

Senor and Senorita signs to put on sweetheart table.  You can tell in the pic but they are sitting on little white easels. They also have string to hang them on back of chairs:

These burlap squares will be places in the middle of the tables with centerpieces on them:

Various shells to decorate around centerpieces.  I haven't decided on centerpieces yet, I plan to do either some sort of lantern or glass vase with sand and shells and candles:

Galvanized tins to put the bridal bouquet and bridesmaids bouquets in and display on tables:

Shell table number holders I have 10 of these):

I plan to give one of these mini bottles to each of the parents to gather some sand from the trip and take home.  Will probably type up a little scroll note and put in them.

I have three of these shell frames.  I'll probably use one for placecards and I'm not sure about what to use the others for yet.

I plan to do table numbers similar to this:

I have 10 of these starfish rafia things to hand off aisle chairs.

Now for DIY.. These templates were shared with me from another bride.

Spanish To Go guides to put in the OOT bags.  Super easy, just printed on a color printer and folded.

Welcome letter (printed on shimmer card stock and cut out starfish and glued on)

700

Shake for a Kiss tags for Maracas.  I plan to buy the maracas there and hang these tags on them and have them placed on tables for each guest.

Gracias tags-- not sure what I will use these for yet.

Another tag I may use:

I made these toppers for the survival kits.  Printed on shimmer card stock and then glued on starfish.

I decided to get bubba kegs for the bridal party and both of our parents.  I ordered waterproof vinyl letters off Etsy to put on each.  The guys are black with black upper case initials.  The girls are navy with yellow lower case letters (our favorite team's colors). I love them!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
