Hi Ladies!

I'm brand new to the site and am also getting married at Playacar Palace next year!

Did you all choose one of the Colin Cowie packages or are you going to customize it yourself? I originally thought I'd choose one of the packages but I'm not in love with any of the color schemes so I plan on fully customizing everything. Just wonderig if anyone else has experience with this.

Thank you!

Katie

Wow! That is so special. I really wanted that date for our wedding, but we invited 350 ppl and felt guilty asking so many to travel on a holiday weekend. We are getting married in at home on valentines day in a private legal ceremony, and in Mexico on March 1, 2014. All the guests are staying at the playacar palace, but we are having the actual wedding at Xcaret! We've been to the hotel 4 times this winter and I cannot say enough good things about it. We are doing a rehearsal dinner thursday night, white party on the beach friday night, wedding saturday and brunch/pool party on sunday! I have scouted some awesome vendors down there if you need anything outside of what the hotel offers! Congrats on your wedding, and good luck!

Very excited! We just booked our wedding for 8-5-2014 at Playacar! I'm a little nervous about having enough room nights to qualify for the unlimited private events, but many of our family members have expressed interest in booking soon and we're inviting eighty people (so the anxiety is probably unwarranted). We shall see...the STDs and wedding website will be out in full force next week! Once less thing on the list. Has anyone booked their reception yet? I'm not sure if I want to put up the extra money for the Colin cowie design or just stick with the standard and add in some personalization. Also has anyone heard anything about the food? I have the buffet and plated dinner options, but I'm wondering what the best tasting options are? Does anyone know if you do a tasting as part of your early arrival before the wedding? Does anyone know about cake flavor options? Any insight would be much appreciated!

Now you have me paranoid..... And confused.....

The way westjet vacations, my TA and the resort put it to me was that westjet works with 'live space', so we cannot block the rooms. If we went with air canada we could, but they were $500 more per trip so that wasn't going to happen..... We are doing a group booking with them, so as long as we have 10 rooms booked we qualify as a group, and as long as westjet has 10 rooms available when we book (which our quote is valid until May 27th) we are supposedly good. So I guess I will know in the next two weeks.....

The resort said that for the 'free rooms' that are part of the group benefit, westjet would be obligated to fulfill (credit us), based on their contract with them (which westjet gave us the option of using their group benefit or the palace resorts benefit, but not both). And then the private event benefit would be fulfilled by the resort so long as our bookings all came from one source (our TA, westjet groups, etc.) and had enough nights to qualify us. I've asked several times and this has been the same answer I've gotten each time, but I'm gonna have to ask again, just in case......

How would getting a room block hold the rooms for us if westjet has already 'claimed' the rooms, wouldn't we be booking/holding twice as many rooms? I was considering blocking a few rooms after our group is confirmed, just in case there are a few stragglers who decide later that they want to come.

You need a room block if you have or don't have a package, matter of fact, every one does a package, either complimentary or paid, that is the way you can get the group benefits, you should investigate a little more since if there is not room block you have no guarantee that your guest will be able to get a room at the resort, it is a very small place.

Now I am a little clearer, WestJet, the airline, is also a TA and is holding rooms on their end so you can not put a hold on rooms on your end, meaning that WestJet is already holding a group rate for you. Am I clear now?

I did not know WestJet was a travel agency too!

I am using a TA, we are having a room block and I am getting all the resort benefits. So I think that by going with WestJet you are missing out.

Now you mention, IF WESTJET has the 10 rooms available. What about if they don't?

Do you have a contract with WJ already? I hope not!

Why dont you request to talk to a TA through the info that Tammy provided in a previous post?

Now I am nervous and feeling behind, I haven't even decided in STD's (insert giggle and weird face here undecided.gif), not that I would like to have any of those. HAHA. Now on a more serious note, can we find a new name for the Save The Date cards?

Ok, back to the subject, I am August 22,2014 and I am not sure about what I want as STD or dress, flowers, colors etc. You are already sending them out? OMG. I am biting my nails.

I attended a seminar for Palace Resort and they have other options besides of what they show in the websites, including Indian wedding decor.

I am booking the reception place after we come back from our trip to PP this weekend, so exciting.

In regards to food, I think I am going with a plated dinner and I am sure is going to be indoors, not beach reception for me.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
