tkuzma's Mayan Riviera Wedding Planning Journal- February 7, 2013!

My inspiration for centerpieces was a vase containing manzanita tree branches with candles hanging from them with candles surrounding the arrangement.

I ordered the branches (they didnâ€t end up being manzanita, but whatever they provided ended up looking nice as well) from my WC.  My aunt initially found an assortment of crystals at a garage sale.  I searched the internet for a while before finding real crystals at a good price from a Canadian chandelier replacement parts company, Luce Crystal (http://www.lucecrystal.ca/) – such a lucky and great find!

For our table numbers, we asked The Paper Tree to write the numbers in Spanish.  I added rhinestone stickers and put them into gold frames.

At each table we placed a wedding I Spy card.  I bought the file from Lindsey Shepherd from Etsy (http://www.etsy.com/shop/LAShepherd).  My groom printed them onto cardstock and made them into standable cards.  We purchased white disposable cameras with flash from www.weddingscenter.com.

At each place setting, we indicated the type of meal with a different coloured rhinestone sticker.  I bought shell card holders from Fairyfolk Weddings (http://www.etsy.com/shop/FairyfolkWeddings)

We ordered a two tier wedding cake with one layer chocolate and the other hazelnut from our WC.  I bought goldy 2 inch ribbon from Fabricland.  I ordered gumpaste cake seashells from the following website: http://www.sugarcraft.com/catalog/flowers/Gumpaste-Edible/gumpaste-edible.htm.  The girls from Lollipop Workshop (http://www.etsy.com/shop/lollipopworkshop) did a wonderful job in making us a customized cake topper!  My FI and I like to play a lot of Scrabble, so he made a LOVE sign using Scrabble tiles.

For a bit of fun during the reception, we ordered a piñata from our WC.  I would never have imagined that almost 30 adults would scramble for candy with as much enthusiasm as they did!

Photographer

We chose Dean Sanderson (http://www.deansandersonweddings.com/; http://www.facebook.com/#!/DeanSandersonWeddings?fref=ts ) to photograph our wedding, and we could not be happier with this decision! Based on the quality of his work, his prices are very reasonable.  On our wedding day, he brought his friend, Catherine Oâ€Hara, another photographer (http://www.catherineohara.com/; http://www.facebook.com/#!/catherineoharaweddingandlifestylephotography?fref=ts ) who happened to be visiting from Paris, to be his assistant.  We lucked out to have two amazing photographers capture memories from our day for us.  Dean is professional but with a great sense of humor who put us at ease (my FI hates posing for pictures!).  We are thrilled with the pictures we have seen so far!

Well I believe this is it for my planning journal!  Since we paid for our wedding ourselves, I tried to save as much money as possible by finding the best deals.  Hopefully the websites and companies I used will save you money as well.  Please feel free to message me with any questions you may have!  Best of luck and wishing you many happy memories in planning your special day!!!

Love,

~Tamara~

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
