Grand Sunset Princess 2014 Bride!!!!

Recommended Posts

@@Lolo63 well this is exciting to be talking to a bride on the same day :) love this site!

Does anyone have experience with booking the ballroom?? I was interested in this idea more because it was privete and more of the "traditional" reception.

Does anyone have any pictures they can send that the resort took?

Also, how was hair and make up at the resort? I am looking to get both done.

@@barbiebec I had the Ibiza gala room, it was perfect for a private reception. The wait staff was efficient and very nice, our WC was there all night making sure everything went smoothly. We did not have decorations, but it is a neutral room (mostly cream white) so you can do a lot with it if you'd like. The far end of it is a bar where you can give them your hard liquor and they supply the pop/wine/beer.

My hubby and I were really happy. Sadly, I don't really have any good photos of that room. I won't get my professional photos until July :(

Thanks so much @@mbear2014 for your response! I was getting a little worried as most people seem to be doing the chill out lounge or the beach party. I have booked the Ibiza ballroom as well. Did you bring in your own hard liquor? I was told we can do that as long as it's local (from playa del carmen) also, did you get a dj? How was that? Was there an opportunity for first dance for bride and groom, speeches, etc.

Thanks! :)

@@barbiebec not a problem!

We had a couple groomsmen pop in to Playa and pick up a couple bottles of hard liquor, spent less then $100USD and the hotel served it.

We used their DJ, he was great! He can hook up any smart phone for your specific dance songs, other than that we asked him to play top 40 and then I requested a couple country songs and he had no issue playing them either. With that rental you get a microphone so our MC ran things like a regular wedding. Speeches, announcing first dance/ father daughter dance etc.

It went really well and we were really happy. We were dancing the night away and had many people looking in the glass door and even trying to come in and join.

The only downside is that there are no bathrooms directly in the Ibiza gala room. The room next door is the 24 hour sports lounge so we popped in there to use the bathrooms.... and my father in law snuck in there for hockey game highlights haha.

@@nehaanjaria - For renting the Chill Out Bar reception - How many guests do you have? I was under the impression that it was a minimum of 40 guests, at $100 per person. (so $4000). I was at a wedding show yesterday and a destination wedding booth woman told me no way; the minimum is 80. I told her I disagreed but she seemed pretty aggressive about it. I don't even think the chill out bar could accomodate 80!

Any feedback helps! I had fantasized about a beautiful private reception that's near the beach, and not on the beach, and I only have 40 guests. (and of course the WC hasn't gotten back to me)

Thanks!

Nikki

Hello there!!!

I just got married on May 9th at the Sunset Gazebo, with a private reception at the Chill Out. It is intact 40 people minimum!!! I had 48 guest, of which 13 were kids (3 of them infants). So they only really charged me 5 guest extra at Child prize, cause the infants were lap held.

You do however, have to pay a min. of 40 adults, even if you have a few kids in that count. If it's above 40, you can ask them to charge you for extras at children fee (which it's like $50 something).

About the WC not responding, i had the same issue. Once i was there, I understood why. It's a very popular wedding resort, and believe me….they are great at it! Therefore, they are super busy. The week I was there, they had 3 to 4 weddings per day.

The grounds are beautiful, the service was great with the exception of a few bartenders, food not the greatest but the Chill Out menu was awesome. BUT…. everything that was wedding related from beginning to end was just perfect! I loved Monserrat and we were happy to give her a big fat tip, cause she damn right deserved it!

Good luck, don't stress and stop going to those Wedding show they're a waste of time. You can create perfect in your mind, without the"expert" advise from anyone…. and trust me, i'm not even creative lol.

Hey ladies! It's great reading all of these amazing post's about your weddings @ GSP. A lot of beautiful pictures as well :)

I'm getting married there in October on the 17th at the Sunset Gazebeo. After reading some of the post's on here I'm wondering if I should look in to maybe doing a private party after the dinner? Currently we are just looking at getting the "princess" wedding package and having our ceremony at 4 pm with dinner to follow at 6 pm.

Does anyone recommend doing something different? I fear that I will not have the chance to do my first dance etc. It just seems so expensive to do one of the private events? Any and all advice greatly appreciated. :) Thank You

If you are looking at a more affordable option than doing a full private event, GSP does offer what they call a private "cocktail party"...this is what we have opted for after our dinner at the Miso restaurant.  I have been in correspondence with one of the wedding coordinators (EMMA) and we will be doing this option from 8pm-10pm on the beach.  You have your own private bartender and can hire their DJ for dancing etc.  I am also of the opinion that doing my first dance, dance with my dad, and so on is really important, but do not have the budget for Chill out lounge or other private options.  This seems to be a much more affordable option (depending on your party's size) and they will set up chairs and cocktail tables.  We are choosing to host this on the beach, but she said that they could do it in other locations as well (not sure on what those are, since we liked the idea of doing dancing in the sand...)

The options are 8pm-10pm $25USD per person for domestic open bar (its pricier if you want premium liquor) or $33USD per person for 8pm-11pm

If you want to have a DJ the cost is $560USD for 2hrs or $650USD for the 3hrs.

Hope that helps a bit! Good luck with your planning! :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
