Wedding Coordinator Advice - Royal Playa del Carmen

Recommended Posts

Someone, please help.

I am excitedly getting married at the royal next November.  My wedding coordinator is Katia and, I feel guilty saying it, but I think need a new lady.  Now I am a REALLY easy going person and she basically has me in tears.  I paid the deposit with minimal information because I was scared I would lose my date and, since then, getting any sort of info from her is damn near impossible.  She takes a week to get back to any of my/my fiances emails (which I think is so unprofessional) and I don't know if it is a language barrier or what but she doesn't really answer our questions and then answers with something else that poses new questions.  So, since I speak Spanish I called once to see if it was the language but it wasn't, just she doesn't give straight answers.  Like for example, I asked about decorations and she answered out of nowhere that all my 80 guests would have to eat the same thing.  When I told her that wasn't possible because I have vegetarians attending she responded with ok, you can have 2 options plus a vegetarian for no extra cost.  If that were the case, why send me into an unnecessary panic?!? Then they updated their services.  In the contract it says changes may occur to the original package without notice and prices may change.  When I called asking if we were entitled to the new contract (same price, only thing really added was brunch) she said no but later changed her mind and said yes.  Long story short, does anyone recommend someone over there who I can switch to or advice on how to continue? Thank you!

Hi! I am a Gran Porto Real bride. My wedding is within 2 weeks to be more specific. I also had Katia as online wedding coordinator and Zulma is my onsite wedding coordinator. I totally understand the way you feel about Katia. But you need to be pushing. I had te same language barrier you had, but even in Spanish they are not very clear in theirs answers. I think that, at the end, she could figure things out and I hope she will be able to handover everything to Zulma. I let you know later. Regarding the food menu, I was also in panic and didn't know how I would manage to ask all my guests ( around 75) who wants to eat meet, who is vegetarian, who wants fish and etc. So, I amd goong for the buffet. You know why? Because it is exactly the same price as ala carte and you have all options: fish, meat, vegetarian and chicken. A variety of salads and desert as well. And As I said before, for the same price. Another thing: if you will be having a cocktail hour, they serve only 3 types of cold canapes. If you want hot ones you need to pay extra. I fighted a bit saying that for a 5 stars hotel 3 types of canapés is very poor. They gave me 4 instead . I still thing it is not enough, but I have decided not to fight against thid anymore because we will have the buffet in our reception with a lot of different food. Hope this information helps you a little bit. :)

Stressing you out is the opposite of what your planner should be doing!

So sorry to hear you're having this problem. If you are already experiencing this kind of bad service, I wouldn't hesitate to switch! You need to be able to count on quick replies and someone who is able to make the planning process easy and fun.

I can't say enough about the planners we used for our past November wedding. Erica and Maria at Weddings in Playa.

You can check out my review and others on this site.

Hope things turn around for you! And of course, congrats!

Ceelou- Your wedding looked fantastic!

Can you PM me your budget for your 40 guests?

Where did your guests stay?

Were any of your guests elderly, do you think a person in a wheel chair could get around the site?

Thanks for your help!

Thank you!

I'll send you what I've got, no problem.

We did have grandma there and she loved every minute. A wheelchair might be tricky at Blue Venado as the entire venue is in the sand but the people there were fabulous to work with and I'm sure would try and facilitate.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
