What's the Best Wedding Advice You've Ever Given/Gotten?

Recommended Posts

Just curious if any brides out there have input on this one.

Best advice I've gotten: I know it's cliche but so far the best advice I've gotten has been to just enjoy it. It goes so fast (I have only a couple more months to go) so I'm trying to make it as fun and stress-free as possible (also why I chose a DW!)

Best advice I could give: based on my planning thus far, I'd say don't bother putting postage on your RSVP cards. I took the time to pre-address and stamp them, and some people are still too lazy to drop them in the mail. I don't get it. I think it's rude. And that was a waste of money for me!

Any other good nuggets out there? Or anything specific to a DW that you've learned and can share? Let's hear it!

So ture, and annoying.  We have not receieved a single RSVP and have 22 guest comfirmed (per my TA) and about 8 guests that we are confident will not attend.

Best advice receieved thus far:

Don't let your friends and family stress you out with their opinions and expectations. It's your day and the only two people who matter are the Bride and Groom.

Soooo rude. And I would never think of doing that to anyone, especially someone I considered to be a friend! It takes like a minute to check a box and drop it in the mail.

Wow!  I'm sorry no one used the good postage you sent. I guess it's a waste to keep things formal these days? confused.gif

This is my best advice I received, and what I try to share too! It is so true - this time is so special y'all. The stress in the end just isn't worth it. It will all come together, you will be married, and it will be amazing.

If I had to choose a 2nd piece of advice - it's also cliched. Do what YOU want. It's your day - for you & your groom. Everyone has opinions, but ultimately it's about you. Want that big ball gown for a beach wedding? Do it. Don't want to do a garter toss or bouquet toss? Don't do it! Don't want to spend money on a DJ (or video or sit down dinner, or whatever)? Don't do it! Want to splurge for those ultra cool centerpieces? Do it! you get the idea...

PS - in the practical column: splurge for the photography. These are the memories of your day. And long after your dress has been preserved (or sold), and your suitcases are unpacked - these are what you'll have as reminders of this super wonderful and exciting time in your lives.

If most of your people booked off the Save the Dates I would definitely say don't bother with the RSVP post cards. You could always follow up with people over email if there are stragglers that you haven't heard from. We ended up doing this even though we had RSVP cards because so many people just failed to use them.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
